ATI Procharger
ATI Procharger
Well thinking about getting a procharer for my 5.4l 2002 ... Just wanted some feedback; what setup should i run? and anyone know a site that sells the kit for a reasonable price? Thanks...
I just installed one about a month ago, very, very impressed, doesn't hit to hard out of the hole but when it spools, look out!, I saw one in the classifieds, you should have a look see if it's still there.
I bought mine used from the classified on this site. I loved my Procharger.
My experience was just like what Blown F-150 talks about. My stock 97 5.4 had no beans over 3000rpm, but plenty of low-end torque. The Procharger gave me big power where it needed it most - as the revs build. It just got faster and faster as the revs rose.
Also, the softer hit at low RPM made pulling a boat up a slick lauch ramp easier.
Honestly, most people prefer the hard hit at low RPM of a roots or twin-screw.
A Procharger (or any centrifugal) doesn't feel as fast but believe me, they make good power are are quite fast.

with a MAD's intake, 42# injectors, 255lph fuel pump and 12psi a procharger will make more rearwheel horsepower than a stock lightning.
like Jordan not mike said: it won't have the bottom end launch but a great top end charge.

What about the Torque #'s at lower RPM speeds? I really don't think ATI Procharger will make the bottom end torque the Lightning will make with the stock blower and pulley set up. And then again it depends on what the application will be used for also.

Keep in mind even the ProChargers WILL make boost the instant you mash the throttle. Won't be quite as much at a positive displacement blower right off idle but it will catch up and keep going after the PD is out of its range. A 12# pullied ProCharger will make about 6 - 7 psi the instant you mash the throttle...same as an 8 - 9 # pullied Eaton. Get a kit with the 3-core intercooler too. I have all that was listed above + the 3-core and made 476 lb-ft at the wheels peak...over 400 lb-ft from 2,900 rpms. This was with a 12# pulley slipping down to 9 - 10.5 psi. A 12# pulley with the the right support will see 13 - 14 psi on the gauge.
I have a 2005 5.4 and i have been looking into getting the procharger... It just seems more reliable to me... I like the fact that it has a self contained oil resorvoir, compared to tapping the oil pan with the vortech... It takes alot less power to make power (compared to a roots/twin screw). It also seems that it would put alot less strain on the engine as well... And lastly the ease of installation compared to a roots/twin screw type SC.
I know that the procharger makes around 9psi with the factory pulley, but i noticed you guys mentioned upgrading the pulley(s) to achieve around 12psi. Is 12 psi still safe for stock internals, and the intake manifold?? And what other modifications are best to run in conjunction with the procharger, as well as the pully upgrade??
And finally is there any of you guys out there with a 2004+ 5.4 running the procharger? If so what are you #'s, and what other modifications have you added to compliment the procharger (i.e. pulley upgrades, injectors, fuel pump...)
Oh and is the procharger a complete kit? Does it include larger injectors, a tune, and everything needed for a complete install? Does anyone know if i can run the edge with the procharger, or do i have to use the included tuning?
I know im asking alot here, but im trying to find out what im getting myself into... I just feel that the procharger is the best choice after researching all of the other SC's... And yes I know that roots/twin screw blowers make instant off-idle low rpm power compared to a small lag associated witha centrifugal... But I feel that the procharger is best for what im looking for...
thanks in advance

The pro charger doesn't come with a tune and does not have larger injectors. It comes with an FMU (Fuel Management Unit) that spikes the fuel pressure. It is not the best set up but it works with the 9# pulley. I never used the FMU but I already had a 190L/hr fuel pump and 24# injectors. I also had it tuned to run before I installed it. I did upgrade to 42# injectors and 255L/hr fuel pump. I also have the intake elbow that MAD used to sell and the 12# pulley. With the PCM detuned for safety I made 313 hp and over 400 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels.

https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=8266 Not sure what caused the the motor to blow it never ran lean it was on the rich side, there was a hole on piston 8 you can see it in the pictures
Dang that sucks man. Hey nice truck though! I really like what you have done with it... It looks like you have a new engine in those pictures? Did you have the old engine rebuilt or what? Did you go with forged internals this time? What all did you do to the new motor? Are you still going to use the procharger??
The motor has forged internals, comp cams, ported heads headers, etc, the only problem is one of the heads are cracked so i had to pull the motor out and redo the heads good thing is the motor is under warranty by the builder,I might be selling the truck when i get it back so i might part out the truck
Have you dynoed the new engine yet? Are they stock ported heads? What the part # of the comp cams did you use? Cna you tell me what all you used? I want to build up my engine eventually, but im going to do alot of research first. So any tips on what all to use?? Sorry if im being alot of trouble...
P.S. if your parting it out I might be very interested in the procharger! I call first dibs!
thanks
