rear mount turbo?
rear mount turbo?
I searched the threads and didn't find to many people talking about turbos. I was wondering if anyone on here has completed a 5.4L turbo setup and what the reciepe was. I'm new to Fords and all my experience is with tuning VW's. Does anyone sell turbo software or do custom software for turbo charging? How much power can the stock fp handle? I am really interested in doing a cheap rear mount setup on my truck but I was wondering how much mods it would take. Any info on fp's, injectors, software, and motor capabilities would be greatly appriciated. Thanks for any help.

Yea STS is the only company i know of that sells "remote" mounted turbo kits, and no they do not have a specific kit for the f150's but i'm sure that their universal kit would be relatively easy to fab up. Keep us updated with pics.
you'll need a 255 lph fuel pump, 42# INJECTORS and inner cooler and a 85mm or larger BLOWTHRU MAF and a custom tune if you get the STS rear mount turbo plus you'll need to run teh oil lines and plumb in the piping... I wanted an STS but after researching it I bought a procharger
thanks for the replys. I am familiar with STS and have checked out thier site. I am not interested in purchasing a "kit". I have built and installed many custom turbo setups on VW's.(not that this makes me a guru or anything) I have built front mount intercoolers and charge pipes along with turbo down pipes and waste gate dumps. I was planing on mounting the turbo just behind the main cat and using a oil scavenge pump for a return. All the turbo components are cheap I was more concerned with the fueling. Also how much boost will the stock 5.4L hold. What is the stock compression of the motor. If it's 10:1 or so then 6 pounds will be ok and with water injection or a decent intercooler 10 would be max probably. What has your experience been? What numbers could you expect with a decent street tune? Is 300 possible without going into the motor?
The reason for this is I think it will be possible to piece together a reiable street turbo setup for around $2000.00 plus or minus 500 and still make decent enough power that it's more worth doing that then buying headers, a cold air intake, and a chip. Or the other way a $4000.00 supercharger kit. IMHO And I'm not hating on superchargers or "kits" because it has been my experience that you then get what you pay for I.E. a well engineered kit with good power and streetability and they are usually more reliable. However I am a hard headed tinkerer who loves the challenge of a build and don't have a pot to p-ss in or a window to throw it out of. All your comments and inputs are very welcomed.thanks guys
