Pulleys

Ok sorry for the new thread, im probably asking questions over again but i keep getting mixed answers. I have an 01 supercrew 5.4L 130,000 miles and i recently purchased a supercharger from ebay, it was an engine take off of a harley. it comes with intake, 10 row intercooler, fuel rails, injectors, throttle body, coil packs, wiring harness and all sensors.

OK i want to change the boost by changing out either the lower or upper pulley whichever is cheaper. By doing this will i need to adjust timing or buy any additional parts other than what the stock harley has?

Also ive read that i dont need to upgrade the fuel pump to the 255l/hr.. is this true? Any addiotional parts i need or that you guys would reccomend would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

Heres the supercharger http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...0873&rd=1&rd=1

If you up the boost you should get an upgraded fuel pump and a new tune!!
The pulley up top will be a lot less then the bottom BUT its better to do the bottom. You never have to worry about belt slip with the bigger bottom.

you defiantly need the tune use someone like mike Troyer and he will let you now quick what you need just have a good list of your mod's
And the lower pulley is cheaper unless you already have the pulley tool required to pull the top S/C pulley

Just did same to my 2003 F150. Used 255 pump, this is enough for 12 lbs of boost which is all you want. Remeber that stock 5.4 run 1 point higher compression and DO NOT have as strong a crank. Call MAD if you want help. PSP who tuned mine. He has done several of these conversions.

12 lbs? I've heard 6-8 on a stock 5.4 block is as high as you want to go. It's not only the compression and crank, the L (HD too?) pistons and rods are also forged.

I'm fairly certain that all 5.4s have forged cranks.

The pistons & connecting rods are different on the Lightnings.

I'll check whether its crank or rods/pistons, but first you won't be happy with just 6lbs of bost and second unless your drag racing you should be OK with 10ish lbs of boost. Remember to you have to retune the ECM anyway and if you have a good tuner he will keep you safe. Even on this site guys are routinely runnning 9lbs with cenrtifugal superchargers. Enjoy life while you can.

I have a 04 lightning, with some mods and a ported eaton it peaked at 13 # of boost on the dyno, since then I have swapped the upper for an apx.additional 2# boost (a 2.75 inch pully.) still running strong. 428 hp rearwheel and 501 # torque at 65 degrees before the pully change.

They lower pully change will give more power/ boost and as any major change will require a retune. This should be done by a pro at a dyno. I have the Diablo predator reprogramer (hand held device that reprograms your trucks computer for shift points fuel mixture timing etc..) The maf can handle some changes but the trouble starts when the maf can not keep up.

check out RPM outlet, they have some performance packages that will sort of give you an idea.

The harley eaton comes stock with a larger upper pully than the lightning so going with the lightning pully ( 3 inches ) will also give you more boost.

the lightning as the Harley stock bottem ends are weak so keeping it around 450 max rear wheel is safe.

The most commen lower pully is a 4 pounder some go as high as a 6 or 8 # lower pully. Sorry I do not know the sizes of the pullies.

If you go with the smaller upper an idler relocate is a good idea. My upper set up is a quick change one so I can swap the pullies fast and easy.

[IMG][/IMG]

looking it the upper pully note the allen screws that hold the pully to the carrier. Note the belt wrap around the pully by relocating the idler, this minamizes the belt slip. The upper plenum si after market by cl as is the intake elbow.

good luck on your install. I was thinking of bidding on the same blower you bought.

I have helped dozens of Monkeybiscut's customers get the rest of the parts needed. Virtually all have been very pleased with the results.

Most guys go with a 12 psi setup, a few at 14 and some stay conservative at 10, your call.

Your bottom end is the same as that in a Lightning with the exception of the cast pistons. They are considered to be the limiting factor and why most guys keep the boost down to 12 psi with a safe tune.
