How has your supercharged engine held up?
How has your supercharged engine held up?
I've got a 2000 F150 XLT Supercab 4X4 with a 5.4. I've got many miles on it and I'm looking at supercharging to gain more HP and Torque for pulling a trailer. It is a daily driver as well.
I've seen many kits out there and my underlining consern is how the engine will hold up as old as it is. How has your 5.4 held up to extra power? How many miles do you have on your engine?

My 2000 5.4L F-150 has held up great. Running a ProCharger with a 12# pulley, 3-core IC, and Mad's intake duct. My truck only has about 54k miles on it though but I don't think mileage is a huge concern anyway. If you've kept up on maintenance then you should have no more problems with a supercharger at 130k miles than you would at 30k miles.
I would do a careful check on the sparkplugs though...

I put my Procharger on my truck when it had 100,000 miles. 10.5 psi.
I've got about 135,000 miles now, she suns great with no issues for the engine or transmission.
I suggest getting a compression (or leakdown) test to make sure your engine is in good shape.
I also suggest a tranny cooler, even if you have the factory cooler I'd add an additional one (that's what I did). Tranny temps get elevate a bit when you put a lot of torque thru it.

Bought my 2001 screw on sep.9 2000.Put a procharger on by nov 2001 w/ around 15-19kmiles(i dont remember).Ran a 14.4 w/ the big blue superchip from troyer bout 2 weeks later.Stepped up to 12 psi around 6-8months later.Ran 13.9.Been at 12 psi ever since and have replaced the tranny 3-4 months ago.I also tow a 9-10k lb cuddy cabin 5-7 times a year.Presently my best is a 13.6 in 78-80 degree temps.Im looking for at least a 13.5 when temps cool. Presently Im @ 67,000 miles and the block is still stock. But every time I go to Moroso(I have between 40-55 runs down that track) I think its gonna vent my block. But knock on wood(as I knock on my forehead) it hasent yet.Ive also done my own tuning since the xcal 2 was available w/ the prp....

I have a 97 f150 5.4L that I put a Magnacharger/Allen Engineering kit on at 170,000 miles. It was a used kit, don't know how many miles it had on the blower. I now have 250,000 miles on the stock motor and 80,000 miles on the blower. No issues with the motor. The blower is due for new bearings. It is a daily driver and is run hard weekly. I am on my second transmission due to a precision billet torque convertor discentergrating after 50,000 miles. I had changed the convertor when I installed the blower. Went back to stock convertor, no issues so far. Check my sig for mod details.
powerdyne
I had a 99 Lariat 4X4 5.4. Added Powerdyne 6psi when it had 60,000 miles on it in 2002. Sold it in 2004 with 80,000. Still ran great. Came across the new owner the other day. Now has 128,000 miles. Runs great, but tranny starting to slip a little.
