air/oil seperator Pro Charger question

What is the best set up to run on my Pro Charger. I went to Home Depot and Lowe's but the only seperators I see say air/water. Are these the same as the air/oil?? If not where to buy?

Does this seperator go in the line between the PCV valve and the blower intake duct?

Thanks

Yes they will work well as a separator. Get the slightly larger one.
You don't need one on the PCV if it enters the intake at the rear of the upper plenum like my stock one does. In your case you will need it on the crank case ventilation that enters in front of the intercooler. The only reason to have a separator is to keep oil out of the intercooler. I'm hoping someone with a Pro Charger will jump in and verify but I don't think it will be that much different then other centrifugal set-ups.
Have fun.

Hey WLF, I'm doing the same thing on my set-up but I don't have any kind of crank case ventilation near the intercooler, only the surge valve which is not where the oil is coming in from. The PCV tube from the drivers side valve cover that goes into the rubber intake elbow connected to the head unit is the only place where oil can enter the system. I assume that is where the seperator needs to go. What do you think.

adt,
Ford must have changed things but the answer is yes. You don't want the oil vapors in the head unit or ultimately in the intercooler. If the inlet is in the rubber intake before the head unit then they will get into both.
My new system has the intercooler in the intake. I need a separator on both the crank case ventilation and on the pcv system.

Are you talking about a new Procharger system or is it some other type of S/C? I've never heard of an intercooler in the intake of a Procharger, but then what do I know.

No I just switched to an Eaton Roots style blower. It has an air to water intercooler like on the Lightning. The upper intake plenum sits on top (and before) the blower and so all the intake air passes through the blower and the intercooler including that from the PCV and the crank case ventilation.

pol5002,

You can use the separtor (Campbell/Hausfield) type. Only I would suggest you use it on the passenger side. Because, majority of your oily vapor comes from the driver's side. I am using a Greddy Style catch can for the driver's side. I have it mounted just in front of my charger. I'm using some type of grey conduit hose that I bought from the hardware store. The hose needs to be non-collapsable. You can buy the can off ebay. DO NOT BUY FROM AUTODYNASTY (Ebay ID) They SUCK. Long story.....

Can you tell me how I would hook up the hoses. In my current set up the PCV valve is in the driver side Valve cover. It is plummed into the elbow before the blower.

Where would I hook this up on the passenger side? Which hose would this hook into?

Also where would I hook up the seperator on the driver side? Would this be from the PCV valve into the blower with the seperator in between?

Thanks!!

Catch Can Pics

Passenger Side PCV hookup. I had a hard time finding fittings for the separator. That's the reason for all of the brass.

Greddy Style Catch Can w/ some type of grey conduit that I bought from the hardware store.

It does matter which side of the can the hose run to. At least not on mine. I'm sure you can buy more expensive setups with a one way flow.

I hope these help, let me know how it goes.

CDB

Thanks a lot for the pics!!!

Let me ask a stupid question. Why have a seperator on the passenger side. It is not linked to the blower unless I am wrong.

Thanks

I have a dyno sesion scheduled for 3:30 Friday at Troyer. I am excited to see ssome numbers and get the tune perfect!!

That's why I mentioned using the smaller separator on the pass side. There is not a whole lot of oil that comes thru. But it does flow thru, right into your intake. You are correct in saying that it is not linked to charger. On the other hand, the charger is pressurrizing the crankcase therefore the pcv would release more exhausted vapors. It's your decision. I just cleaned mine last week and I already have oil in it again.

Good luck with the dyno. A buddy mentioned a dyno day down in Georgia somewhere...he might have said Cummins, GA. It's not to far away from here but my truck is not running right at the moment, so I figure that would be a wasted trip.
