Question Intercooler Location?

Where on a 02 harley f-150 is the intercooler?? I've seen diagrams and some of them show the intercooler between the supercharger and intake, I'm a little new to superchargers and intercoolers so I wanted to know where it was. Are intercoolers and heat exchangers the same thing?? Does my truck have both or just one. Sorry if they seem like dumb questions, I just never dealt with any of this stuff before.

On a supercharged Harley the intercooler is under the blower in the intake manifold and the heat exchanger would be behind the front bumper.
I dont have a HD but I have a Lightning setup on my truck. They should be the same.

The intercooler under the blower cools the charged air from the blower into the engine. Through that process, it heats up the water that flows through it. Then it's pumped through the heat exchanger located in front of the A/C condensor and behind the front bumper. The air flows through the heat exchanger as you drive, it cools the water and gets pumped back to the intercooler. It's an effective system and is very neccesary for daily driven trucks. If you live in a hot climate like I do, Phoenix, AZ. they are prone to what's called "heat soak" which will cause you to loose hp in the summer, but that's going to happen regardless. Air-to-air intercoolers commonly used with the centrifugal blowers tend to be more effecient in cooling the charged air. I have the Procharger with the 3-core air-to-air intercooler in my truck. After driving for a while, the outlet pipe is way too hot to touch but the inlet pipe after the intercooler is much cooler. I can accually lay my hand on it. So to answer your ?, yes you need both the intercooler and heat exchanger.

Smile Are intercoolers (Air2Air or Air2Water) necessary for 6 to 9#'s of boost?

How many pounds of boost are you running?

Thanks,

I am running 9 psi, that's what the guage says at least. Intercooling is a must. A cooler and denser air charge makes more power while allowing an engine to run cooler. The drag on the air flow through an a/a cooler can steal 1 1/2 - 2 psi, but typical air/air system will yield up to 20% more power.

I currently have the 9# pulley on right now. I have a 12# pulley on the bench waiting to go on as soon as I get the tune worked out. I had a problem with my fuel pressure but I've corrected it now. So right now I'm only showing 6-7 # on the gauge. The low boost can also be caused by the intake system from ATI, somewhat restrictive.madenterprise.com has a better system with less restriction. Claims to add 1-1.5 # of boost.

adt - I talked to Mad a few weeks ago, about the 180* elbow for my Paxton, and at that point he was unable to get them from his previous supplier. I tried one of his flex elbows, and it wouldn't quite work, so I designed my own. G luck.

It works great. I'm afraid it's not much help to anybody else as it is so DIY.
