Those who have a Kenne Bell 2V

I recently purchased a used Kenne Bell to put on my 2003 2V 5.4. I don't have any experience with this kit so I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on the install or problems I might encounter. Any positives or negatives about the kit?

I will be installing the kit with 42lb injectors, 90mm mass air, and a 255 lph in-tank pump. Will probably get Mike to put some tunes together for my 4-program Superchip. In the near future I will also install water/meth injection since the kit is not intercooled.

I have been looking forward to getting a positve displacement supercharger for some time. I tried a Powerdyne and a Procharger but wasn't satisfied with the low end power and I hope the Kenne Bell will deliver.

You may want to get on the list asap, as Mike is several weeks out for new tunes. At least get a baseline tune before you change. Intercooling is your friend.

I've got the Kenne Bell on a 2001 5.4L 4x4 Supercrew. I installed it 75,000 miles ago. I love the performance even without the intercooling. I made my own Water/Alcohol injection sytem that works great. I did the addtional items you mentioned too that increased performance and reliability, i.e. 90mm Lightning MAF, 36# injectors (came with the kit), 190 lpm fuel pump (deleted the Boast-A-Pump that came with the kit), and got and excellent tune from Mike Troyer (4 position switch), he's the best in the industry for Ford truck tuning, IMHO. I also made a larger hole in the fender that matched the diameter of the filter inlet (3.5"). Now the intake is the same size all the way up to the 75mm BBK throttle body. I used the Denso IT-20 plugs and gapped them to .035-.038 (be careful gapping, you could break the electrode).

I also moved the IAT (intake air temp. sensor) from the filter housing to below the blower outlet, next to the brass fitting that goes to the boost/vaccuum gauge; the IAT reads the real compressed air temp now, which is what you want, because Mike Troyer can pull timing when the temps get too high and protect your engine. I drilled a hole that matched (interference fit actually) the IAT sensor dia. Mike tuned it so it pulls 2 degrees of tuning at 100 degrees and another 2 degrees at 150 degrees. My IAT rarely gets above 200 degrees because of the W/A injections system. FYI, the W/A system has not affected the IAT at all - works great.

I also installed a Transgo Performance Shift Kit; it's an upgrade that Mike Troyer can tune your truck better with it installed. 75K miles running 10 PSI boost and the trannny is still very strong.

Buy some gauges too, Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), Air/Fuel (for WOT), Boost/Vaccuum, and Fuel Pressure. Don't forget to replace the fuel filter too!

Good luck witht the install. It's very easy if you follow the directions. Leave me any questions here if you need help.

Brucescrew,

Thanks for the reply. It's good to know that the w/a injection works since that is the route I plan to take.

How have you liked the performance of the supercharger? Any times with the truck, 0-60, 1/8, or 1/4? Just curious. I would think that my truck should be quicker since it is a regular cab 2wd.

I have tried different superchargers and was never pleased with the performance in everyday driving. So much so that I took them off and for over a year have run my truck N/A. Not stock though, it still performs o.k. with the following bolt-ons:

K&N 77 series intake
90mm maf
75mm throttle body
24lb injectors
ASP underdrive pullies
Troyer electric fans
Dynatech longtubes
Gibson cat-back
SCT 6600 chip
FTVB

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to going back to forced induction, can't wait for the extra power, especially with the positive displacement supercharger.

Hi fstfrd,

I love the performance of the Kenne Bell for everyday driving and you will love it too, even more with a regular cab 2wd. The twinscrew is awsome for 0-60 mph; I like getting up to the speed limit faster than most vehicles out there. At the track, I've beat Mustang GT's, 2003 Corvette, Camaros, not to mention every truck (except Lightnings). My best track time in my 5500# truck:

60' = 1.97 sec.
1/8 mile = 9.1 sec.
1/4 mile = 14.21 sec.

You've got all the bolt-ons you'll

BruceScrew,

Noticed your running 10 psi and was wondering how long you've been running at that level? Mike told me that he didn't recommend 10 psi from the 2.2 Kenne Bell on the stock motor. Also, what size pulley are you running and what is your wot shift point from 1-2 and 2-3? Mine is setup now to shift 5400 1-2 and 5200 2-3 running n\a. I was curious because I know the supercharger builds boost instantly but have saw where some gain a lb or two in the upper rpms.

By the way, I was looking at your profile and noticed something that I thought was sort of funny. Says your interests were trucks, exercise and computers, occupation IT manager. Sort of made me grin because I've always owned Ford trucks: Rangers, F150's, and even a Lightning. Been weight-lifting/powerlifting now for over 10 years and guess what, I'm a Programmer/Analyst. Just thought that was funny.

Thanks for the replies.

I use the 3.25" pulley for everyday use. I've raced with the smaller, 2.875" pulley that gave me 14 PSI boost (yes, wow!). The boost was 6-7 PSI with the same pulley until I opened up the intake and throttle body. I hit 10-11 PSI at WOT about 4-5 times a week when I get the chance to open it up a little. These ford engines are awsome, I proven it over and over again. With 105K miles, this truck is very powerful; doesn't feel any different since I put the KB on over 75K miles ago. I test drove a brand new Roush Stage 3 Mustang yesterday and I have to say it was fun to drive; it handles better than te truck, but I still like the power I get out of the 5.4L with the bigger KB blower. The Roush SC is no where near as good as the KB. If I were to bye a Mustang it would be the regular GT and put and intercooled KB unit on it and different pulleys with a new chip with multiple tunes and get it over the performance of the new GT500 for sure.

Yes, I like exercise and playing with computers and trucks; I grew up on a farm. I have another truck that my daughters and wife drive; it's 1998 F150 reg. cab flareside with a 4.6L motor. It looks like a lightning without all the fancy trimming. It's in perfect condition except that it has 140K miles on it. I bought it for $6000 a year ago May on Autotrader.com. The plan is twin or single turbocharged. The goal is over 1000 hp at the rear wheels. Of course it will need major work down all around, i.e. suspension, transmission, cage, new race engine. etc. Did I mention I like playing with truck!
