High Idle with AC on - XCal2 and SC on 5.4
High Idle with AC on - XCal2 and SC on 5.4
Recently installed a SC on my 2001 5.4. Also installed a custom tune with an XCal2. Everything has been great, that is until I turned on the AC. Now when I run the AC and place the truck in drive the truck want to run away(idles at 1200+). This is a real headache with intown driving. I constantly have to ride the brakes when driving below 35 mph. BTW, when I put the trans in park with the AC on the idle drops to 850 rpm, still higher than without the AC on but not 1200+. Can the AC idle be adjusted?
I'm not sure if it can be adjusted with the Xcal-2, I'm waiting to find out myself. My rig is doing the same thing. My biggest problem is that I removed the stock fan and put on dual 16'' e-fans. With the engine idleing so high, it's overheating the engine with the A/C on and also the tranny temps go way up. I just bought a 6'' fan to put on the tranny cooler, that should help but I still don't like the engine hot idleing at 1000 rpm all the time. I've posted many times on this matter and have not gotten a solid answer. If you do, please let me know. Thx. AJ.

The idle issue can be corrected within the software. If you have a custom tune contact whomever did this and have them correct it ASAP. You paid for a correct tune. With the xcal they can just email the correction to you.
The dual electric fans should cool twice as good as the stocker.Check to see if you have them wired in the correct position. If you have the fans set up for Pullers use a sheet of paper and see if it will pull the paper in or push it out. I orginally wired my elecetric fans backwards and it is hard to tell. I would run hot in traffic. When I swapped the wires around the problem was solved.
Good Luck,
Bill

It's easy to tell that the fans are set up as pullers, I can feel the air blowing towards the engine. They turn on at the correct temp also. It just seems like they're just not strong enough to cool the engine when the temps are over 100* and it's just going to get hotter still. I'm sure the blower adds alot more heat to, and the 3-core intercooler probably blocks some air flow. I'll check with Mad Mike and ask him about the wires. Thx.
