On another note, I'm going to datalog my fathers' Harley F150 and see what is going on with his high idle.

Does datalogging have to be done on a dyno? Or can any shop do it?

Don't know about other OBDII tools but the AutoEnginuity program/interface cable and my laptop will data log to my hearts content, dyno, real world... If you have a code reader it might have the capability to data log.

You can get autotap software. It plugs into your odb port. The new SCT tuner allows you to data log as well.

Raider,
Dom tuned mine as well.

I'll have to get a buddy of mine to bring his lap top. I don't have one. I do have the SCT flash tuner.

There is a crapload of info you'll be able to get with your SCT. You can also use the tuner to capture data while in real time, if no lap top is available. You will need to download the datalog parameters from a computer. I've tried it both ways.

I found out the other day why my fathers' Harley idled high. Our tuner had raised the idle rpm. He did the same adjustment to mine, but my L is fine...go figure. All good now.

Why did your tuner raise the idle speed? or was it just an oversight?

From what I gather, it was only supposed to be raised 50-100 rpm under certain conditions. I don't recall exactly what he said, because at that time I had been there for quite some time and was ready to go.

Finally getting a handle on the high idle issue, It was in the tune after all. Spoke to Mike Dunn, his suggestion was, since I have the SCT Excal-2 and the Extreme tune program downloaded from SCT's web site, simply to go to the customize section and adjust it myself. I had to set it at 450 rpms because the true rpms seems to be higher. So now the engine idles in gear, hot or cold at 600 rpms. I'm going to raise it a little more to get it to 700. I think that will be perfect. That's also been helping the overheating problem to. For that, I'm putting in a 170* thermostat. I think the stock one is not opening all the way.

adt,
I put a Lightning 180 in mine. It has a special diverter on the bottom that is suppose to flow more coolant to the heads. So far I have had no problems. Might be worth a try.
