that's an excellent question as i am a california resident as well and in the process of doing an L swap. as far as i know getting a good custom tune is the most important thing to pass smog. a good person to consult would be mike dunn at madenterprise.com. he did an L swap on his truck and happens to be the left coast authority on L swapping'.

Mike passes smog with his truck and Adam does also...its all OEM parts plus the biggest thing is having your truck tuned correctly

good thing i'm putting an HD blower and not an L blower assembly on my truck! haha j/k i have to call b.s. on that one b/c to my knowledge the only difference b/w the L and the HD setup is the HD has a bigger blower pulley ie. 6# instead of of 8# on the L (365hp vs. 385hp). other then that i believe the systems are identical. i'm setting up my HD kit for 14# of boost and i have no worries about passing smog as long as Sal or MT provide the custom tune. just get it on a dyno and datalog it if you can and you should be fine

naw i'm runnin' the stock 4.6, it'll be fiiiine yeah i plan on selling my stock 4.6 on ordering a Bullet block from LFP with perf heads and stage 2 cams. i'm not gonna port my HD blower so i'm keeping the boost under 15#. it's gonna rock!!
