What spark plugs to use with supercharger
What spark plugs to use with supercharger
Hi, I am going to be getting a supercharger soon, either a powerdyne or procharger and I would like to know which spark plug is the best to use with a supercharged 5.4? Thanks.
You will doubtless get many replies on this one, but I am switching to Denso Iridium it20 for my Powerdyne / 4.6 set up. This is one step cooler - I was running 1t16 n/a. These plugs have an incredibly small and fragile center electrode, and Denso would prefer that they be used straight out of the box and not be gapped....not cheap either.
The critical number involved here is the gap. Everyone here seems to agree on .035, however, I recently read one place that .030 was the magic number.
I had to have confirmation on that as the sticker under the hood says .054, and it seemed like it would be way too close, but boost will blow out the spark if the gap is too wide.

I also had to go to TR6’s, just put them in yesterday and had to back the gap back to .028.
I don’t know why mine is different but I suspect the Compression Ratio is higher then a stock engine. I am going to do some cylinder pressure readings to see if they are higher then stock. I am running a 10 lb pulley.
I have been constantly nagged by a WOT miss. The better I got the supercharger to run the more it seemed to miss at WOT.
NGK TR6 gapped at 028 fixed it and my idle is still good.
I would try the TR5’s first or the Iridium’s. I don’t think too many have the problem I did.

ONELOWF,
From that I gather you got everything from Mike and it's installed. I am curious how you like your new found power.
Post your impressions here somewhere.
My truck is flying and I have only been hitting 9 lbs or so. I can now free up my mind to work on that spring loaded tensioner...
