Roush 8-psi Pulley Question
Roush 8-psi Pulley Question
Hello all,
I have the Roush SC on my 05 Screw with the 5.4L. If I install an 8-psi pulley, will I also need install new injectors? Does anyone know where I can order the pulley?
Thanks

Well, that's hard to say, technically you should not. Previous generation Mustangs with the Roush S/C who upgraded to the 8lb pulley did not need them -- however, this is the M112 blower, not the M90 so not sure. You do know that that pulley will probably void the warranty if you still have the warranty intact because you had a ford/certified mechanic install it, right? My suggestion, would be to swap the pulley AT a dyno and get it dyno'd with A/F at time of swap and see what it looks like from there.
Here's the 8lb pulley I've seen, but be warned, it was made for the cars, before the truck kit, so I don't know if the snout spindle is the same diameter, offset, etc - i.e. not sure if it will fit! You could call them and ask, they're good people...

A few questions about yout roush charger if you don't mind, how is the overall performance increase, do you think its worth it? Does it take it up to atleast 400hp at the wheels? I have a 06 crew 4x4 and i;m considering the roush package. Just looking for some seat of the pants feedback on the systems performance and if its plug and go and not having to make a lot of dialing in garb.
thanks for any feed back.

Hi jgross,
We can supply the pulley you need to bump it up, and yes, you can take it up to the 8 PSI level - however, we strongly recommend having us do a custom tune when you do that.
No, you do not need to upgrade the injectors or fuel pump to do that 2 PSI boost increase in the Roush kit for the 2004 & up 5.4 3V F-150, with proper tuning the fuel system will still support the fuel needs of the engine.
For 06crew - the Roush supercharger kit adds 140 Hp & 175 lb/ft. of torque to the 5.4 3V engine, so it';s extremely efficient for a 6 PSI boost level Roots-style positive displacement blower. Overall it';s a very nice kit, in fact, it's the *only* one we recommend, sell or will even install in these trucks. They include their own special PCM calibration with the kit, however, it needs some tweaking, so all of our customers who have purchased this kit have also had us do *our* custom tuning on it as well. We knock anywhere from an additional 5 tenths to as much as a full second off the 1/4 mile times that Roush gets with their calibration, as they do not let the blower go to work as soon as we do when demanding full performance, and there are some other little "issues" with their calibration - for example, they "bang" the 4-2 downshift as they allow too much power into the transmission during a full-throttle 4-2 downshift, and that needs to be fixed. Also, when cruising at say, 75-80 mph on the freeway, it tends to unlock the TQ and then a few seconds later downshift into 3rd gear when it just doesn't need to. There are some other little things with their calibration we do not like as well, but all of that is easily curable when we re-tune it, and the end result is a much quicker and more responsive vehicle.
Their Air/Fuel ratio control is excellent, that is perhaps the best point about the Roush calibration - that has been done very nicely for the stock boost level - most of our customers up it another 2 PSI to take it to 8 PSI.
there are also some upgrades coming out for that kit that you will be able to install on any existing Roush kit, so there is more info about this that would take several posts to type it all out - if you would like to go over all the various details of this kit, please feel free to give us a call and ask for me personally, I'll be happy to go over everything you will want to know about it throughly with you, so you can give that some thought, if you like.
