Any here with 04+ turbo'd/supercharged?
Any here with 04+ turbo'd/supercharged?
I have an 2004 Ford Explorer 4.6L and I just bought a Universal STS Turbo kit for my truck. We haven't installed it yet because my local tuner is having trouble dyno tuning the new "drive by wire" systems on the 04-05 F150's and my 04 Explorer has the same "DBW" system. So we didn't want to install it and not be able to tune it.I was wondering for you lucky guys who have a SC or Turbo for your 2004+ F150's if:
1) You have a 4.6 or 5.4?
2) Did you have any tuning issues with the DBW system?
3) Where did you get your dyno tune done?
4) Any other problems or issues I should be worrying about with the DBW??
5) what are you using to tune it? (SCT, Diablo?, etc)
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I appreciate all and any info you guys have. I've been searching for about 2 weeks and no one has any answers!!
The only other option is to pick it back up until there's a tune/program from SCT (for my tuner) to start this project back up....

most of the guys on here are that are supercharged are either running the roush kit or the procharger. both of these kits come with a tuner with a loaded tune to reflash the PCM and deal with the DBW sluggish-ness and added performance. as far as turbos, i havent heard much about the new f-150s as of yet. also, they are ALL 5.4s. No one is even offering anything for the 4.6's in the 150's. you may want to get in contact with mike troyer or trixter's racing, they deal with this kind of stuff on a daily basis. trixter's does some sick work with turbos. STS may be able to help you out with it too... try giving them a call. they can't just send you a kit and no tuner and just expect everything to work correctly. ask their advise.
Thanks for your time ziggaboo. I appreciate your fast response. I have been working with STS, my tuner, and my dealer in trying to figure out the best approach. WOTperformance in Riverside, CA is an awsome tuner. He's one of the top tuners in CA. He can EVENTUALLY tune it. But it will cost a lot of dyno time and $$. He's even called SCT for input. All they can say was to try it with a 05 mustang blown tune and wait for the Check engine light to turn on and work from there... I can't afford to do that. So now I'm trying find some successful dyno tuned blown applications for the 3v F150 with the DBW. to see how they overcame issues (if any)
WOT had problems tuning a procharged 04 5.4 F150.
The tune that it came with didn't have a good A/F (i don't know the details).
My dealer is willing to refund the $$ if we can't find a solution before we install it. Obviously he wouldn't want to turn any business away, we've been talking back and forth for weeks. We've even thought of the Perfect Power SMT piggy backs, but that doesn't gaurantee a soluttion either as they never installed one on a blown DBW Ford.
Does anyone have a custom dyno tune with their procharger or turbo?
(I will ask crash and skidmark too. I've been reading on the got pressure forums too) thanks for your inputs!
Anyone?
