Vortech install? Need Advise

Ok, so I'm totally new here and hope this hasn't been asked. I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I posted over in Engines and was told I might have better luck over here. So here goes:

I have a 2000, XLT, Screw, 4.6 auto, open rear with 47k on the Odometer, with Cat back 2.75" exhaust and drop in K&N. Not much else done to the motor. I bought a used Vortech kit for my truck and have a couple of problems/questions:

1) the kit did not come with any type of chip so I would like recommendations on which chip/programmer to get that works best with this setup. Cost is definitely a consideration.

2) the kit came with a mass airflow sensor (I think) that was destroyed. (Tried to fix it and gave up) Can I use the stock one or does anyone know where I can get one that will work with this kit. Tried contacting Vortech about it and only got the run-a-round.

I'm not trying to win any races just add a few more ponies to the truck so she will pull and drive a little easier. Thanks, any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly you can use the maf that is on your truck. You can double check this by going to votech's website. There you will find a install manual and a parts list. As for the chip you might and might not need one. See if it pings after the install, if it does you can invest in one.

As far as I know almost all kits come with a progam or something. I would contact the manu. of the kit just to be sure. As for a programmer, If you did by one, I would get someone with a dyno to fine tune it. I did the same thing you are doing when I got my Kenne Bell. It cost me some money to get it fix( LOL learn as you go I guess). After the rebuild, I gave JMS chips a call in Mobile, AL and they put it on the dyno and did a custom tune, no problems what so ever now. good luck!

Here's a link to the vortech manual

BTW Vortech did not supply a chip with their kits (although some have managed to get one from them)
