Thumbs up Which Engine for My Turbo Project?

I just purchased a project truck, 1998 F150 Regular Cab Flareside 2WD 4.6L with 125K miles on it - it's in perfect condition even with the high miles and age - like me!

Well, I'm not sure if I should replace the engine with a built 5.4L 4V with a built 4R100 transmission with twin T61 turbos - goal is ~800-900 RWHP or go with a built Cobra 4.6 4V with a built 4R70 transmission with twin turbos; This project is for street and strip use.

I'm concerned with engine weight, I might look at going with an aluminum block. I'm also concerned with space under the hood. There are Mustangs running twin turbos out there, but I'm also concerned with torque/hp comparisions between the 4.6 and the 5.4. Any comments would be much appreciated - thanks!

I'd run the 5.4 for the extra torque!! i don't think you'd save that much space by going with the dohc 4.6...

4.6 cobra engine, better breathing heads, or the navi 5.4. With 800hp from a turbo or turbos, torque is not going to be an issue

Thanks for the replies; I want to make sure I don't go down a deadend road with this project. I want to keep costs down by doing most, if not all the work myself. I've learned a ton from this forum and want to give back what I learn from this project piece by piece. I plan on starting with designing the system that will produce the power and reliability I'm looking for. I've worked as a design drafter for years in the industrial and aerospace industries; primarily in hyrdaulic actuation systems for flight controls. Measure twice and cut once is what this forum and others have taught me - thanks guys.

Considering whats available NOW ONLY - built 5.4 4v/built 4R100/twin turbos (may want a smaller one for faster spool up and larger for mid/top end?)

Considering what is available NOW and in the FUTURE and COST and difficulty level - built 5.4 2v/built 4R100 AND have a choice NOW of a roots M112, 2.3 twinscrew, several centrifugal kits, single turbo kit, custom twin turbos AND in the FUTURE have a choice of a monster 3.3 twinscrew.

Good Luck!
