Returnless Fuel system

Ok... this is probably a dumb question but are our fuel systems "returnless"???? I'm not sure what that is but I see the term thrown around a bit...

What is the diff between a "returnless" and one that isn't a "returnless" fuel system?

Oh, by "our fuel systems", of course I mean those on 1997 and up F150's. Mine's a 2002.

Thanks!
Levi

The series of F-150 you are asking about have a fuel return line to return fuel to the fuel tank.

If you initally installed your ProCharger with an FMU you would have had to connect your FMU in line with the return line.

No, never used the FMU.

After further research, I think I *finally* figured it out. It appears fuel pressure is adjusted via voltage to the fuel pump in a "returnless" system. I was just curious as to the differences in the systems and wondering if there was an advantage of one over the other.

Thanks.

Looking under my truck there is a fuel return line, think it was the gray one but not sure right now. I think the Mustangs got the returnless systems with the New Edge body style. 5.4's have stayed with the return style. Returnless fuel systems are more difficult to tune in serious power applications...that's why some owners of newer mustangs swap to the 03/04 Cobra's tank and fuel system as it is a return style. The variable voltage thing may still be in there too but that could work with both setups.

Hey Crash, thanks man! That's as good of an explanation as I've seen.
