supercharge my 4.6 ?

Thinking of supercharging my 2000 F-150 extra-cab,short-bed with the 4.6, the truck has 30,000 miles. I just installed a 5 inch lift and it has 33x12.5/16. I have the AF-1 air intake,Borla exhaust, microchip supertuner installed. My questions are how much will supercharging my engine shorten its life?Around how expensive is it? How much is involved in installing a supercharger? How much power will I gain from it? What are the pro's and con's of it overall? In your honest opinion is it worth doing?
Thanks alot, I appreciate all the feedback.

Is it worth doing? HE!! yes!

As with any mod you can go mild to wild. If you stay on the conservative end there is no reason your engine couldn't live out it's normal expected life. The supercharger you choose will determine cost and installation. For me, I spent less than four grand and it took a weekend to install. I'm not a mechanic but I was able to study the directions and familiarized myself with the stock componants. After it was all said and done I was able to look back and say it was pretty easy. You wont be able to use the microtuner, you will need a custom burned chip.

Pros: you have a lot more truck than you started with. There is a huge sense of satisfaction when you can outpower vehicles that are usually faster than you. You would have the added satisfaction of easier motoring off road.

Cons: the power game is highly addictive (expensive). As we feel the need to have just a little more power, the likelyhood that something will break or wear out prematurely increases.

There are a bunch of people here that have supercharged. I don't hear any one complaining, except that for they need more!

Good luck!

As far as which brand of siperchargers to go with, the big three here tend to be the Magnacharger, the ATI, and the Kenne Bell. I have the Magna and love it. Gives you instantaneous boost, and there's virtually no maintainance. The ATI is also suppose to be an awesome unit. Only drawback I've ever heard about the Kenne Bell is that it does not offer an intercooler. However, it's been stated that the unit is so efficient that an intercooler is not necessary.

I'd suggest reading thru some old posts, God knows there's plenty of them and gather as much info as possible before making your decision. Price wise, they are all in the same ballpark, somewhere between 3-4 grand with the Kenne Bell a bit more but it does offer you more in the kit. Either way you go I'm sure you'll be more than happy with your decision and will never look back.

Contact Crash! or Pilot for pricing - specifics usually cannot be discussed on this board or most others. Try out their sites also. I replied to your post on FTW.

Good luck with your decision and which ever way you go make it an informed one. The best advice I can give is to find a supercharged truck locally that you can take for a drive and do a lot of research. Your driving habits and expectations will dictate which one you will choose.
