Question Idle changed - added 75mm Throttle Body

Hey guys,

I just installed an new 75mm throttle body on my Kenne Bell supercharger and my ilde went from 600 rpm to 1000 rpm.

I have the Autotap OBD-II testing software and cable. Checked the TPS angle before and after at idle and WOT; the original angle at idle (Closed) was 20 degrees and 92 degrees at WOT. The 75mm throttle body is the same at idle (Closed) and WOT only goes to 77 degrees and (Part Throttle) - any ideas?

Does it affect the IAC by going to a larger throttle body?

By the way, it a MAC 75mm throttle body - looks pretty nice.

Thanks for your feedback in advance!

Hey BruceScrew,
When I put on the BBK TB on my truck the instructions said that the idle may need to be adjusted. If I remember correctly, once the truck is warm you turn the setscrew to bring the idle back to the correct range. Also, did you check your TPS after switching throttle bodies?

Hi RayCee,

What should I be looking for on the TPS?

Thanks!

Cool

HI!... Hook a digital volt meter up and probe the center of the 3 wires going to the TPS. Turn your key to the forward on position (engine off). With the throttle closed you should read 0.98 - 0.99 volts. DO NOT EXCEED 0.99 volts or you CAN get wild surging idles or sometimes a higher idle. You adjust the TPS by loosening the two side screws that hold it to the side of the TB. You only need to twist it ever so slightly to get the voltage reading to change. Once you have the desired reading, then simply re-tighten the TPS screws.

Thanks Neal and RayCee for the great information. The OBDII readings are 1 volt at closed and 4.6 WOT. Not sure if the 1 volt is bad. It was worst before I drilled out the TPS mount screw holes. I will need to drill out more material and rotate the TPS in a counter clockwise position to achive .98 or .99 volts. I do have a volt meter, but the TPS is rotated 90 degrees due to the Kenne Bell mounting. I've got the process down to under one minute to get the throttle body off so shouldn't be a problem test. I'll post the results.

Thanks Guys!

Hey Guys,

I set the voltage to .98 and the idle stays at 1100 rpms; not surging just stays high. When I open the throttle it takes 20 seconds to come down from 1700 rpms to 1100. I would think it would come down quicker. What do you guys think? Could there be something wrong with the IAC? I opened up the IAC and it looks clean. Everything was working fine before the new throttle body installation.

Help! Thanks!

BruceScrew,
I remember someone stating that they were having problems with the "butterfly" getting hung up on the Throttle body elbow. It seems as though it couldn't open or close all the way. If I remeber correctly they had to file the elbow a little. Maybe this is something to look into?

Bruce,

I had the same problem with mine when I added the BBK. I found that the TPS spacer was binding not letting the TB valve close all the way. It took some time and adjustments. I found that after awhile my TPS voltage would b off again and I would have to readjust. Make sure that the TPS spacer turns freely in the TB housing and you have to preload the tps sensor when installing it. Hope this helps.

Bill

Hey Outdare!

Where have you been? I saw that you were considering selling your ATI set-up. What set-up are you considering next?

Iron,

I have been thinking of stepping up to a Diesel. I have a 8800 lbs fifthwheel I pull and the mileage sucks with gas. So I won't be upgrading to a new system. Well if you call a chip exaust and other do dads for the new truck stepping up then yes.

.....as in a TURBO Diesel??????????? Yeah, I know what your doing......your try'in to jump ahead of the pack!

Local guys have been talking about all these turbo diesels and how they are putting out more hp/tq. than any of these roots, twinscrew or centrifugal superchargers.

A while back I read an article about a Dodge Dakota with a "straight six" turbo diesel (Banks). It put out near or over 1,000 hp and over 1,000 tq. (set some kind of land speed record with it). What I found interesting about it was the fact that, it is "streetable".

After I finish the "Bazooka Re-Loaded" project (and pay it off), my next project WILL HAVE a forged built engine and at least one turbo (Ford Ranger? or Firebird?).
