More Low End

after seeing the new Hot Rod with the roots vs. cent. vs. turbo it is obvious that the roots "owns" the cent, below 4,000 rpm.

so here is my thoughts ( i realize this may have come up before, but i didnt have a cent. s/c before) could one of the following be done:
1. put say a 10 to 12 pulley on and have a chip made to pull alot of timimg out at the upper rpm. seems like anyone running over 10# on a stock motor is having problems. i dont have time or $ to blow a motor and go thru all the expense and down time.

2. put on a 10 to 12 pulley that would make more boost down low and then some kind of waste gate that could be adjusted to say 8 to 9 #. i could see a problem with the maf meter but there has to be a way around that.

3. 4.10 gears seems, and a higher (2400, 2600) stall would seem like a good thing too, but that is some $$$ and the 4.10 dont scare me but the trans work might not be the best thing for everyday.

4. what rpm is your cent s/c truck shifting at, mine seems to be about 5100. the higher you rev the cent. the better. is anyone have a chip that is allowing the motor to shift a little higher with no problems?

5. my truck is a heavy super crew with a 5.4, 3.55 gear and a bigger 285/60/18 tire and one modifycation, a vortech s/c (this thing is so quiet that you dont even know its there.

Brotherdave,

I will be installing the 12# pulley on my truck soon. I have a custom diablo chip as well. So I will be able to tell you from the seat of the pants and when I get a dyno I will have both graphs from the 9#'er to the 12# pulley's. I have 3.55 as well and I am running 285/50/20. I found that the ATI starts around 1,800 to 2,100 rpm. I also installed a shift kit in mine as well. My truck shifts around 5,000 something. When I get up there I am usually concentrating on the road. I have my dyno from the 9#'er posted on my FTW gallery.

there are three graphs, whats the difference? are you going to get the chip made for the 12# or are you going to run what you have. did the place you dynoed at do the chip?
hard to believe that as big as Houston is you have to go to lewisville to get it tuned.
i have no idea what kind of hp i make. the pull from 4000 to 5000 is great, i would be willing to keep the 4 to 5 the same and just improve the 2500 to 4000 power, the old cake and eat it too thing. you graphs seem similar to hot rods results, at least the graph in the middle.

I had it tuned by Dom. He is with Crash and skid at Trixters. The three different pulls were for chip adjustments on the dyno. I had him set it up so that the chip would accomendate the 12# pulley, which I have just finished installing with the cobra water pump. As far as going to Lewisville I have family that live up there so it was not problem. There is a place over by Hobby called Strictly performance I was going to use them. I still might run up there to get another base line of the difference with th 12#' er.
