Will the 4R70W take it?
Will the 4R70W take it?
I am considering a Supercharger and I have some concerns about the 4R70W transmission. Somewhere I read the max torque specs that the 4R70W tranny could handle and the 5.4l puts out right close the the tranny's max sustained torque as stock. If the Supercharger is added, I can only assume that the max torque spec of the tranny will be exceeded. Anyone else have any information on this? Has anyone with the 5.4l and 4R70W Tranny put on a Supercharger? If so, any problems with shelling the tranny or similar?

Most of us with aftermarket blowers have the 4R70W. Make sure to get a good shift kit and you should be fine. There are a few weak spots in the tranny from what I gather but they can be built to handle 800hp or so. Im currently working on getting my tune tweaked but last pull, I was putting down 393ft/lb torque and my tranny is holding up fine.
Thanks Zyg! What is it that can be done to beef up the tranny? when you say good shift kit, are you talking a B&K or a Superchips program?
I am all for beefing up the tranny, regardless of whether I have a blower or not.
Thanks for all the info!

Get a TransGo shift kit, and a chip. The shift kit will allow the tranny to be able to physically flow more fluid, and a chip will take out the various retards and delays that are in the tranny.
If you want to bullet proof your tranny like I did, I got everything that the level ten tranny rebuild kit comes with, that is supposed to handle 800 hp/700 ft-lbs of torque, plus a few other things that my tranny builder uses, and a custom built 2200 rpm stall converter w/ lokcup function. With a tranny like this, it should be able to handle anything that you can throw at it. It will cost around $2000, but it is well worth it, especially since I know that that is the strongest part in my driveline now.

The two kits we go for are the level10 and the baumann. These are quality kits and really help the tranny out. Once you blow it you can rebuild it for under a grand and it will hold 800 plus HP
