Magnacharger Lightning Pump Mod

So I noticed a small coolant puddle under my truck. Tracked it down to the POS Flo-jet pump on the intercooler circuit. It is leaking from the impeller gasket. I never liked having a pump that only ran in boost, so I always jumpered my hobbs switch when towing my trailer to keep the pump running. This may have done it in.

So now I'm going to switch to the L pump. I was reading up in my shop manual and notice that the L pump shown has an electrical connector on the pump body. Do I need this connector as well as the pump and bracket or can I splice it in as is?

The good news is no more hobbs switch and no more blockage of my PS cooler!

How long have you had that Magnacharger in there? I'll have to keep an eye out for the puddle.

I couldn't tell you what you need. When you find out it'll help many of us.

Post your question in the "L" forum. You'll probably get an answer.

Ian,

As you may know there have been three different pumps offered with the Magnacharger kits.

The flow jet was intended to only kick on at certain boost levels with the hobbs switch.

Then they changed to the "puppy pump" (my version). It operates continuously when engine is operating (off ignition key) and the hobbs switch is not used of course. It lasts 1 to 2 years.

Now, the Magnacharger kit (developed by Allen Engine Development) comes with the Lightning pump! It also operates like the "puppy pump", but will last about 3 to 4 years.

If you call Allen Engine Development at (805) 658-8262 and talk to "Scott" or email Scott at allen@allenengine.com, he will provide you with all the tech. detail you could ever want or need.

Their site is www.allenengine.com

Hope this helps.

Ian,
I just installed a Magnacharger/Allen about 3 months ago and have the "lightning intercooler pump". If you need, let me know and I'll take a look at how it's wired in, and what type of bracket would be required to mount it.

I send Allen an email and got a response pretty quick. They have a conversion kit for switching to an L pump for a cheaper price than I could buy the pump alone from my dealer. I ordered the kit and will let you know how it goes.

I guess since I am not a vendor, I can talk price. It was $250 for the kit. Fordpartsonline wanted $265 for the pump and bracket alone. My local dealer wanted more like $300.
