Drop install tips or pointers?

Well I have an 07 FX2 Supercrew with newly installed Boss 330's black/chrome, and my eibach 2"-3" kit will be in this week. I'm going to install the rear springs myself, and I was wondering if you guys had any helpful tips or pointers on the install ie. moving the gas tank? I have a shop installing the front springs, and doing the alignment.

I helped a friend put that very drop on his FX2 a few months back. You may want to see about having the other shop change the rear springs out too. In order to get the front bolt out of the left side spring, you need to drop the gas tank; or cut the bolt. We went the bolt cutting route, and went through about 3 sawzall blades in the process. Another benefit to having the shop do the rears is that, when done prior to the front end alignment, they can set the front end up correctly-it would need to be redone after the rear is lowered as camber would change even as the rear suspension is lowered.

I used a hacksaw to cut off the driver side forward leaf bolt. I took the nut off and tapped the bolt inward towards the tank enought to get the saw on the shank. It was all down hill from there. It costed about $12 for a replacement bolt. Not having to remove the tank, saved a ton of time. I also installed the front springs and had the front end aligned at a shop. I rented the spring compression tool from Autozone to do so. I found the front was much harder than the rear although I read where other people thought it was easier. Good luck with your project.

CUT CUT ! I put an Eiback 2/3 on my 04 and did the same thing with a sawzall and about 4 blades. I cut both sides because the fuel tank on one side and muffler on the other side were both in the way. After that it goes pretty fast. Bolts and nuts are pretty expensive from Ford but you can get a local frame and spring shop to set you up with good grade stuff at half the price.

Have fun !

I helped on the install on the 3" springs, we moved the gas tank.

Just unbolt the filler neck from the bed side, and slightly lower the tank and take the straps loose, and move it around as needed. It can slide any direction about a foot. Just be careful. We had a 4' long 6"8" piece of wood under it to support the full length of the tank.

Front camber should not change much after doing the rear. Only thing that should change is caster, which is a non-wear angle.

Just do the rears first, take it to the shop, have them do the fronts and alignment. But honestly the fronts arent that hard to do. Actually easier then doing a spacer install i believe.

I've got some tips in my drop thread here about taking the rear leafs out and a little bit on dropping the gas tank. I have a flip kit so it may be a bit different, keep that in mind. And to be honest the front springs weren't that hard to switch out.

Yeah, thats what they told me, and then the guy said realistically 2 months. . He told me to call to make sure it was in stock before I place the order again.

from what i have heard, some of the trucks have a two piece drive shaft, and the drop causes a vibration with out the relocation kit. mine has a one piece drive shaft, so i am not so worried about it.

i just sent another email to see if it is in stock yet. i never cancelled my order because they had a one day only 15% off sale, so i only ended up paying $266 for the kit. cant beat that!

correct. This relocation is kinda a PIA, more IMHO then the rest of the install. Its alot of measuring, and using poor printout stencils

abelrob: if you want I can help with the install up in Austin if you want to make the drive out here

The carrier bearing is used on 2 piece drive shafts. If you have the 1 piece drive shaft you won't need it. If you have the 2 piece, you'll need it.

When I get my kit, I might just have to take you up on that offer.

I only have a one piece driveshaft so it looks like I wont be needing the cb relocater.

Damn, $266 is a hell of a deal. Will you do me a favor and let me know when they ship it out?
