Lowering Kit Question

What are some online sites that sell lowering kits for the new body style F150? I know of www.stylintrucks.com and was jsut wanting some other places to compare prices before I order a kit. I am looking for a 2/5 or somewhere around that. Thanks for any info.

Well I just picked up the McGaughy's 2/4.5 (that's what it says on McGaughy's website) lowering kit today from StreetBeatCustoms. They have a warehouse about 30 minutes from where I live so I just went there and bought it, but it's essentially where they run their online store out of. I'm going to do the rear tonight but I need to figure out a way to compress the new springs to get them in. I'll let you know how it works after I install it but it looks like a pretty solid built kit, the instructions are a little lacking but you can just look up some instructions online for a similar kit.

I got it for about $400 after taxes but it's $364.68 +shipping I would suppose on their online store.

I looked in your profile and it says you have an extended cab 4x2 just like mine so here's the link:

I'll post up a thread with pics and a small review within a couple days hopefully.
Also here's the place I found for pictures of the installation, it's essentially the same thing minus the new shocks:

EDIT: Forgot to mention the kit doesn't have new shocks because it has a fitting that bolts onto the lower attachment point for the shock to lower it down some instead of getting shorter shocks.

Well, I have some pics already but so far this is proving to be a major pain in the ***. I've been working on it for like 4 hours now and I just got to the other side of the rear and discovered I have to drop the gas tank to get the front leaf spring bolt out. Also, the front leaf spring bolts were torqued so tight it took a pipe wrench, a 2 foot pipe and a small sledgehammer to get it off. I can't wait until it's done though.

There have been enough threads on here to state that go to the dealer and buy another leaf spring bolt and cut the old one off instead of droppin the tank a sawzall is your best friend at this moment and post some pics when done

I tried using a sawzall on that bolt and after about 45 minutes, 3 blades and very little progress, I said F it and dropped the tank and replaced the bolt since I had made a little progress (very little) w/ the sawzall.

Also, I would not Recommend the McGaughy's kit. That's what I used and the rear leafs suck. The front springs ride the same as stock. I dont think I got a full 2 inch drop though. However I did replace the shocks w/ Bilsteins so that may be the reason. However, the rear leafs dropped more than four inches because they were so soft. Plus, because they were so soft I had terrible axle wrap when just accelerating normally from a stop. I ended up using the flat "slapper" leaf from the bottom of the stock leafs on the McGaughy's leaf sorings to stop the axle wrap. But when I did that it raised the rear end back up a few inches so I then had to use the Ground Force lowering shackles that I already had to bring the rear end back down. The truck now sits perfectly level. I plan to eventually switch to the Ground Force rear leafs or possibly just use a flip kit and use the stock leafs again.

I just disconnected the intake and air return tubes from the truck, undid the band towards the front and pushed the gas tank away from the bolt while it was supported underneath by a 2x4 that I cut to go under it. Then I flipped the bolt around so I don't have to move the gas tank to get it out if i need to in the future. I have the back all done but I need the drive shaft hanger to re-align it, it's pretty crooked right now and it didn't come with the kit. (It's another 60 or something like that). I also need to find a way to compress the shocks in the front to get the out and get the new ones in. Right now it looks really stupid lol, it ended up being a 5" drop in the back after cranked the spare back into it's spot, and the front is still at stock. I'll post up tons of pics on how to do it since there's no good documentation or instructions. So far I'm liking it and I hope I can make it easier for other guys to install, it took me forever to figure out some of the stuff and it took me all night (no sleep) to get the rear done, so anyone else doing this will be able to get it done a lot faster.

Also, the bolt stuck a little to far out the other side when I flipped it so I cut off some of it with a dremel tool and one of the cutting wheels, it took me like 15 minutes with the dremel, they're made to cut through tough stuff like that.

Not yet, I'm doing that tomorrow. I was dead tired plus I needed pipes for my pipe clamps. They work perfect for compressing the springs and I just tested them out. A dremel may look sissy but it works wonders lol, those cutting wheels are made to go right through that sort of stuff.

More pics and a whole new thread coming soon, I'll do a full "How to" install thread, as the instructions they have are crap with no pictures or diagrams at all.
