To Lower or to Raise...
I had it in my head for about 6 months that I wanted an '04 or '05 F-150 XLT shortbox regular cab that I was going to slam and make into a street truck however after scouring the city for a regular cab of any kind all I could find was an '05 XLT 4x4 longbox. I decided to buy this truck because it actually would have saved me more than $12000 than ordering a 2x4 from Ford. I still want a lowered truck but now the question is should I lower a 4x4 or even can I lower a 4x4?

You can drop a 4x4, but it's gonna take some $$ and work to do it. I've never done a 4x4 myself, so I can't get into any details. I'm not sure that I would like the look of a longbed dropped, unless you plan on doing some other work to it, and the paint is in excellent condition.
My suggestion: Lift it, or sell it off and buy something more suited to your style.

Too Poor
Like I said though, this truck saved me tonnes (Yes, I'm a canuck) of money. The 4x4 longbed was actually significantly cheaper than a 4x2 shortbed, believe it or not, leaving me the money to do all the mods I want.
i say lift it with body and suspension, put 37" tires, change gears and intake, exhaust and ride it till it quits. :santa:

Go ahead and lower it. I have two lowered 4X4's right now, and have not had problems with either. There are even some bagged and body dropped 4X4's out there. Those that will say don't do it, either don't care for dropped trucks, haven't done it themselves, or just don't know any better.
Generally you can't lower a 4X4 as much as a 2wd truck, although some people do, but a mild 2" front, 3" rear drop won't hurt anything. I believe there are kits for the F-150's that can lower your rear up to 5" and front around 3".

Thanks 05RoushMarkLT, I was hoping someone was going to say something like that. I really do want a lowered truck, like I said before, not laying frame but lower. The deal I got and the area I live in meant I had to get that 4x4.
I'm not too familiar with suspension except for what I've read. How difficult would it be to lower a 4x4 with lots of theoretical knowledge but no actual practical knowledge?
I was thinking the height of jondog9's screw would be good ride height. How realistic is that on a 4x4 with bags?
Nice trucks BTW. Was never a fan of the SportTrac, but that one looks pretty good. The Lincoln looks.....wait a second....
