Adding a Sub to my SCrew?
Adding a Sub to my SCrew?
I want to add a subwoofer to my 2001 SuperCrew
Current setup:
2000 Alpine 4X40 CD receiver
4 Polk DX7 3-ways with Dynamat
... plus I have a Kicker 8" sub from a previous vehicle
What's the best option? Should I buy a multi-channel amp, increase the wattage to the Polks and power a custom built sub? Or simply patch an amplified Bazooka RS 8" into the current system?
At 42, I'm not looking for earth-shaking performance... just something to take the load off my main speakers and feel some bass for a change
Thanks,
Jon

For me personally, I don't think another 8" sub will accomplish what you're going for. I would get a 10" sub (a good sound quality sub.. perhaps a Boston Acoustics?) and power that with a dedicated amp. This will allow you flexibility in your amp choice for the full range Polk speakers. You could just go with a 4 channel amp if you're interested in powering all 4 of your full range Polks. I'd suggest getting an amp with a high-pass crossover, this will prevent the full range speakers from having to produce the lower bass frequencies as this will be handled MUCH BETTER by the sub. This may also prevent any nuisance rattles or distortion from the smaller speakers trying to produce the bass.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I agree with TEK2000...definitely get at least a 10" sub powered with a dedicated amp. Then get a 4 channel amp for your speakers. You'll be amazed at how loud the speakers can get (and still sound good) when you filter the low frequencies.

In addtion, this box does not take a lot of time and money to make, does not interfere with the operation of the back seat, and is totally hidden. Email me if you have any questions.
