Unhappy Subbox.net question

I'm facing a dilemma with my subwoofer situation. I finally received a box I ordered from Subbox.net, after a little complaining on my part. The box I ordered was for my 2002 SCab with the 2 down-firing 10" subs. Their website specs said that the maximum mounting depth is 5.5". So while I was waiting for the box to arrive, I ordered 2 Rockford-Fosgate RFP3410 subs which listed a mounting depth of 5.375". A tight fit, but I believed .125" to be enough for the woofer to breathe through the vent hole in the back.

When the box arrived, I tried to install one of the woofers and the magnet hit the inside of the box leaving the woofer sticking out of the hole about 1/8". I measured the depth of the box and found that it was a little shy of 5.25". I also noticed that the box had arrived without the carpet on it.

I actually spoke with Andy at Subbox.net 2 days ago and he said he would get another box out for me in a few days, since they shouldn't go out without the carpet at all. He didn't have an explanation about the mounting depth issue.

My dilemma is do I have him ship me another box only to find out my subs don't fit in it either or do I try to return the subs I bought and get something that will fit?

My question is does anyone have RFP3410's in the Subbox.net box for the late model SCab?

Thanks!

sounddomain.com is a good place to ask questions about the needed depth and other stereo stuff.

I DID THE SAME THING YOU DID BUT I DID THEM WITH INFINITY PERFECTS 10.1'S. YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO DO WHAT I DID, I CUT 2 RINGS OUT OF 3/8" MDF USING A ROTOZIP AND CAULKED RIGHT ON TO THE BOX. I ALSO PUT 3/4" STOPS ON EACH CORNER OF THE BOX SO THE SUBS WON'T HIT THE FLOOR. NOW IT SOUNDS LOVELY. HOPE I HELPED.

Ideally you need at least a couple of inches behind the magnet for the air pumping out of the vented pole piece (if they're vented).

Okay, now I'm aggravated! This guy (Andy) told me a week ago he would get me a replacement box out ina day or two. It's now a week later and I haven't even heard from the guy. I've emailed him twice asking very nicely for a status on the replacement, and nothing! ZIP!

So today I emailed him and asked for my money back. Let's see how long this takes!

Let me know how this goes!

I ordered my box on 6-17, and I can't get a call back either!!!!

Though I did notice my credit card was charged immediately!

Not real happy with the situation at the moment, since it is the once thing that is holding up my install.

RCRonic,

I'll tell you, I also went this route. Subbox.net seems to appear to have a good operation going. But I finally had to settle with the Vantage Box from JL Audio. If you get 2 LJ Audio 8w3 they hit like 2 10's. And the Box is awesome. Its made from thick preformed plastic and it fits in the F-150 like a glove. I know you'll never get like kind of bass from 2 8s but it definatley comes close Also at www.sounddomain.com they have pre built boxes, from a company called R/T that is for a 10" sub, but the mounting depth is very shallow and only like 2 different models of subs will fit in the box. Just my 2 cents.

Scott

I have 4 Infinity Reference
2 JL Audio 8IB4
Pioneer Head Unit, soon to be replaced by Alpine
Rockford Fosgate 600a5 amp

Well I guess all's well that ends well. After all the delays and waiting, and my increased blood pressure, Andy finally came through with a replacement box and it is great. It is one of the new ones built by his new manufacturer and it sounds great, and seems to be well constructed.

Also, he told me to go ahead and keep the one I received a few weeks ago, that didn't have the carpet on it, since I had already installed my woofers in it.

Hopefully he has his shipping and manufacturing problems worked out, because he does produce a nice product.
