Question Audio system upgrade

I ahve a 2000 Lariat with the six disc changer. i would like to add an amplifier and some higher end speakers, but keep the stock head unit. My question is this, can you plug an amplifier into this head unit, does it have pre-out capability. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

I don't know about all of the technical lingo but I do know that I wanted to keep my stock head unit with the same 6 cd changer set up you have. Well, I did. They hooked a Soundstream 4 channel Rubicon Amp to mine and wired it to 4 JBL's. I also added an amplified 10" Bazooka. It makes a very neat package and looks completely stock. They did put some sort of filter or noise suppression device in line with the amp/head unit. I think they just made a little more $$$ off me but there is no noise at all. The amp is 25 watts per channel( go ahead and laugh) but I can assure you dont want any more sound than that( in a Soundstream amp) unless you want to go deaf. Anyway, good luck. It can be done....with very satisfying results. I strongly reccomend the sub or a sub of any kind. That was the greatest change and the best money I spent.

You can keep your stock head unit and add amplifiers and upgrade the speakers and maybe even add subs. All you need are line out converters, these convert you speaker outputs from the head unit into RCA out puts so you can use an amplifier or two.

Expygator,

If you don't mind me asking, how much did your upgrade cost you?
