How to wire at 2 OHMS?
How to wire at 2 OHMS?
while i understand speakers/amps/subs/etc, i know nothing about wiring. i need to wire two subs at 2 ohms, and i don't know how. its all wire size right? or do i need crossovers? installdr.com only says how to install new speakers on our kinds of trucks. anyone know of other sites, or have pics of their installs? my box is coming soon, and i wanna have it all installed the day i get the box.
fyi: 2 rockford fosgate hx2's, 500 rms@2 ohms
one rockford fosgate 1000.2 amp, 1050 watts@2 ohms
subbox.net sub box
2000 watt rms 4 awg amp kit (is that enough? awg?)

If your speakers are rated at 2 ohms then they will drive at 2 ohms if you hook them up MONO. Definitly use 4 gauge wire for your power line 2 your amp. It needs all the juice you can give it.
Its cake bro .. hope this helps

Hey Sporkdevil,
Actually, if they are dual voice coil drivers, which I think they are, then you simply hook them up using the positive from one voice coil (speaker connectors on the side) and negative on the other voice coil. This turns a 4ohm speaker into a 2ohm.
Many people do this with the dual voice coil drivers when they intend on only using one.

yes, it is dual voice coil. so wire it like....

sorry, its the best i can do. and that will really make it run at 2 ohms? both voice coils at 2 ohms? ill should get the 500 watts rms outta that? please message back, your being very very helpful. (please ignore dots, this forum won't allow that many spaces, it removes them, and in actually more confusing. so just hook up one positive to one side, and one negative to the other? and do it for both subs?

Sporkdevil,
Hey, sorry, I was wrong. I got it backwards. I gave you instructions for wiring to 8 ohms.
To wire for 2 ohms, you basically wire the voice coils in series (daisy chain) Hook the first one to the amp, both positive and negative. Then hook the voice coils to gether, positive/ positive, negative/negative. So basically it would be this:
Let me know if you need anything more.

Sporkdevil,
The one other thing you might want to consider is adding a .5 farrad capacitor. You might experience a bit of bouncing lights when your sub is hitting hard due to power drain. I only have a 300w amp and one 10", so I don't know how our 130 amp alts. take the drain. It kinda depends on the regulator the alternator has in it. Maybe someone like Pennywise_88 with big power can let you know if a capacitor would be needed.
Also, make certain you run the power line from the battery or the starter block with an inline fuse (probably about 30 or 35 amp) under the hood.
Also, also, you can hook up the amp with speaker line inputs by splicing into the back door speakers if you have a Supercab. You can get to them quite easily by pulling out one side of the little rubber wire cover that goes from back wall to the door.
Happy to help.
