Sub rattling problem
I have two new MTX 8104s in QLogic Type 1 (truck) boxes. My amp isn't in yet, so I hooked them up to the home stereo system just to make sure everything was hooked up ok (yeah, I know I could fry my receiver, big deal). Anyway, each sub has an annoying rattle to it when they get a decent amount of power. I tried taking out the plastic ring that came with the QLogic box, but it still rattled. I don't think they're blown, seeing as how both subs do it and they're both brand new, but I really can't think of what else it may be. Does anyone know?
Edit: Could it be caused by the weak, crappy signal the sub is getting from the receiver? Just another idea.

Out of phase?
Double check the polarity on both of your speakers. I was redoing some things in my truck and I crossed the wires going from the binding post to the sub in the box. I didn't realize it until I tried to run 'em and I had similar symptoms to what you're describing. Knowing how forgettful I am, I swapped the polarity at the amp for one of the speakers and it cleared the problem up right away.
Thanks. I'm pretty sure everything's hooked up right. It's a rattle by the sub itself. I've patched up all the places where air could escape but it's still doing it. Any other suggestions?
Hey Formus,
You may be running an 8 ohm load on 4 ohm woofers. I'm not sure that it could cause rattling, but I wouldn't want do this for very long. You might try testing them on someone elses car system or at one of your local stereo shops.

Make sure the subs are tight to the boxes. The q-logic boxes are not the best around. The rattle may be coming from the box flexing under the pressure. You may want to try using some acoustic damping material and adding a brace to the inside of the box between the front and back wall
isaiah,
Thanks. It's a buzzing sound, like it has something to do with the plastic ring that you have to stick in there. Would sticking it down with liquid nail be a good idea?
