Magnet Space
Magnet Space
I just installed some green infinity kappas in my screw last night and I am concerned with the magnet being too close or touching the door wall. I would like to space it out a little because I have the space but I do not know what to use for maybe an 1/8" or so is all I need. Also they do not sound as full as the factory ones that I have not yet replaced. Could this be a result of the wiring being reversed? I notice after I installed the ones I have in exactly like the factory ones I pulled out the the clips on the infinity has a red mark on the opposite side that the ford clip shows their positive. I will try in reverse when I get home tonight.
The polarity doesn't matter, so long as you are consistent with both speakers. If only one of them is wired backwards they will be out of phase and have all kinds of holes in the frequency response (and sound like crap).
If you need a little more room in back, and you have extra room in front, you could build a spacer out of masonite or MDF. You should also "gasket" the speaker with a surround of some airtight material, preferably one that also damps vibrations. Dynamat is a favorite (even have a kit just for this), but you could something else cheaper or similar.
