Subbox, need info

For the 01F150 Xcab subbox, can anyone verify the 0.75CF claim. Has anyone checked it. Also, checking their site, they are showing a dual 12" box now for the same truck. Again, with the same 0.75CF, even though the overall dimensions are different. I'd like to buy their box, but quite frankly don't trust their numbers. Any verification from users. Does the dual 12" fit without lifting the seat?

The box does allow for .75 cubic feet, although not in the shape of a cube. The entire box is hollow of course and has a center divider. While much of the volume is not directly behind the driver, the effect is almost the same. Besides, a cube is the worst shape for a sub enclosure. Whether or not you have to lift your seat depends on your year model. As far as the 12 inch box is concerned, in my opinion, thats just too small a space to cram two 12 inch subs. You'll never get the cone excursion you need for really deep bass in a space that small. The sub cone would be less than two inches from the floor. The acoustics of the box surroundings is just as important as the box itself in determining how the sub will sound. I've got the subbox.net dual 10 inch box with polk dx10's and it jams. Just feed them a lot of power.

No, I realize that the shape of the volume is not a problem. Just from my own calculations using a measuring tape, and comparing it to the dimensions on their site, it seems really difficult to get 1.5 cf total. When I emailed them, they could not provide exact figures. It was a bit evasive. I was just wondering if it was more like 0.6 each rather than 0.75.
In regards to the 12" subbox, they show a height of 8" (as compared to 6" for the 10's)which is not really doable without lifting the seat, but their site doesn't state that the seat needs to be lifted.

What year model do you have?

The reason they won't give you dimensions is because they do not want you to build the box yourself!

I have the 2001 F150 Xcab. You may remember that they used to advertise 1.0CF per side. I challenged them on that with an email claiming that it was impossible. They wrote back to say they had revised the numbers. But, still could not justify the internal volume, said something about obtuse angles and such. Its just simple math. If they can design the box they could do basic algebra. IF one wanted he could copy the box himself just from the web pages and a ruler. So thats not it. I just don't think they set down to do the actualy math. I would rather buy one than make it, the price and quality both look good, and people are happy with it. Just that I had my sub in a 0.6CF box and it sounded like crap, 0.75CF it sounded great.

I'm surprised that such a small difference in volume made such a dynamic difference in sound. Maybe it had to do something with how each box was constructed. You can always use polyfill to gain a little more travel out of a small box too.

I think there may be a guranatee on their boxes at subbox. You'd be out the S&H of course, but it may be worth looking into. I bought my box from subbox.net for my 97 and a friend of mine with a 99 looked it over and built his own. His box sounds as good as mine but looks better. Of course he has a leather interior so covered the box in vinyl and had "Polk/Momo" stitched into it in caramel.

The subbox isn't excatly cheap, but I can say that the box is built very well and fits like a glove.
