Question How long for speaker break in?

How long does it generally take for new speakers to break in? I just got done installing a set of Polk DX-7's and I don't want to crank them up to soon and screw them up. They're powered by a MTX 6304 if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Bob

I really wouldn't worry about blowing them too soon. The most important thing to remember is constistency. If you want to go loud, keep it there. Don't turn it up really loud and then turn it down too quickly. Keep the level of volume at a constant level. It will probably take anywhere from 20-40 hours to completely get them broken in.

I responded to a similar post in the subwoofer section, but I will re-iterate what I said there.

There is no break in period for a speaker. Well, there is but it doesn't mean that you have to take it easy to "break it in". You should push it to the limit as much, and as often as possible. The speaker will "loosen" up after a while. adamski may very well be correct in the number of hours it will take, but I think that number may be a little high. Maybe 20 - 40 hours of sporadic use, but a good 8 - 12 hours of continuous use.

I have an installer buddy of mine that does high end custom work. He takes subs and installs a tone generator in line between the sub and the amp. He can tune it for a specific frequency and peak out the gain. This keeps the sub in a constant peak situation, maximizing excursion values. He hooks it up the night before the install, and lets it run all night. This allows the sub to "loosen" up prior to being installed. The end result is a sub that sounds better.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Thumbs up Thanks JB!

Your info makes me feel better. The speakers have been getting a pretty good workout because everbody that rides in the truck says"How loud does this thing go?' so they should be loosened up soon. BTW, I saw your sig and the lift and tires sound strangely familiar! LOL. I'm sure your truck is sweet!

Check that, I looked at your gallery and your truck is sweet! Did you crank your torsion bars to level the front?
