20% off the best subs on the market!!!
Hahaha...no such thing right? WRONG!!!
http://www.ddaudio.com/products.htm
The 3500 series are probably the price equivillent of most JL's, but a single vented 10", will typically out pound even 2 JL 12". Insane output, even better SQ. I just dropped a 9512 in lastnight. 7 spiders in this beast!!! They say it takes years of hard play to break them in where you can move the cone by hand. Best of all, for $100 shipped, they re-use the motor structure (magnet) and replace everything else, making it basically a new sub. Just be sure you have the power these babys need. FYI you can get a 1400W x 1 @ 13.8V Class D monoblock Cadence amp for about $380 on the web, with warrenty. Retails for $1,000. My lights don't dim, flicker, or anything due to the 4 ga. power and efficiency of the amp. Even my RF G360A2 dimmed the head unit a bit, and that was only 400W.
Anyway, all DD products are 20% the price listed, but they don't make mention of it. Won't last long though.

The picture of the sub on their main website page shows the cooling vent on the back of the motor/magnet assembly. Doesn't look large enough to me. My Audiobahn Alum12 has a 1inch cooling port and THAT is not even enough. Small diameter means high air velocity at high excursion which makes NOISE, especially if you mount the sub facing into the box like I have. Many people don't realize with the newer subs designed to be mounted in 1cuft enclosures will overheat and burn out the voicecoil because the air in such a small box is used for cooling if the sub is mounted flush with the motor assembly in the box. Of course this isn't a problem for bass-reflex designs (vented) but don't do this for a sealed box!
None of the pics on their site are current...the current subs have 6 large vent holes in the top plate, and a good 2" tapered vent in the bottom plate...no noise, excellent cooling. These subs are made to take 10,000+ watts for extended burping periods. Also, none of them are recommended for sealed. That would be wasted potential. In the right enclosure, even up to a 5 cubic foot box for a single 12", these have excellent SQ.

Ok, I'll take your word for it.
Don't think my wife would appreciate a 5cu.ft box in my truck though!
Well, I haven't seen a sub yet that will take much over 1000 watts rms (real watts) continuous without cooking in due time. I think most subs are way over-rated. Music power or "peak power" really means nothing. So what if it can take 5000 watts... for how long 0.0001 seconds perhaps? Well, you know what I mean.
Of course box design preference is up to the listener. I still prefer sealed boxes for the deep bass excursion (Bass Mekanik tracks). I couldn't care less if the guy on the sidewalk doesn't hear me coming. Of course bass reflex designs will produce more dB's at a given frequency, however below their tuning frequency they will start to flap around (under 20Hz), generally speaking. If you want BOOM go ported (bass reflex), if you want to please your ears and chest go sealed. Remember you can't use a specific model sub for either, it depends on the Q rating as to which box design is more ideal for that driver.
A 2inch cooling vent sounds good to me!
Check out the Audiobahn AWT34, picture attached.

No kidding, I only did a 2.5 cu ft. enclosure. DD recommends a continuous 1,200W for music, and at least 2,400W for tones. I'm giving mine about 1,432W daily. These subs are way overbuilt...they take the power, and beg for more. http://www.ddaudio.com/pHandl.htm Hell, you can even plug their bottom end sub into a wall outlet in freeair and it'll take it. That's over 3,000W at 60 Hz.
I have a clip if anyone is interested. Pretty cool.
I prefer ported to sealed, because of the lower bass extension, and better cone control. I've tried several JL's and Kickers in both of their recommended enclosures and the ported boxes appeal more to me for both Metal and Rock / Rap. Much louder, and much deeper. I'm also downfiring my DD, nice and punchy, not at all boomy. The general rule to vented enclosures is 3 cycles below tuning frequency, and the sub will lose control and flop, but this is not true with DD subs...they play very well at even 15 cycles or lower below their tuning.
Email from DD: "Our design and engineering efforts have ruled out most of the "general rule
of thumb" ideas." "With the suspension of the 9500, you can
run the sub well below tuning frequency and still maintain control, the only factor then becomes the impedance which dips well below the nominal impedance of the voice coil and draws a lot more power from the amp."
I'm tuned at 36Hz., and 20 - 25 is a dream come true. Besides, that what subsonic filters are for.
The lowest note from a Bass guitar is around 40 Hz., and most prod. music doesn't drop below 30 Hz. My 12W3 was tuned at 32 Hz. and it would bottom out at about 28 Hz, but I was feeding it more than double it's recommended power. Like you said, depends on the sub's Q. As long as you tune your box above the Q, you will be good.
The AWT34 is impressive, but with a similar motor structure to the 18", and not so impressive excursion, there not very popular. Even at $1,600.
Their freq. responce is also exaggerated. Their not good for much other than 5-50 Hz. I'm also not a fan of Audiobahn's PHAT surrounds. They waste very useful cone area, and tend to lose control at high excursion. With DD's EROM surround, no cone area is sacrificed, and the surround on their 10" subs is good for 3.5" of travel.
I love talking car audio with fellow F-150'ers...check out http://www.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi
BTW, Deus...I was referring to the efficiency of the amp. I didn't mean to place so much emphesis on the 4 ga.

Well from what i have heard dd is great but the beyond audio inhumans and psi's are the best money can buy. I myself am planning on getting an inhuman 15 the 10 inch quad coil version hit 153 which to me is freeking amazing from a 10. Bud i have to admit i have never ever heard a bad thing about dd, I am mainly thinking of ba because of the fact that no one has them and there will probibly never be anyone around me with one. its cinda neat.
Good Luck

Just ordered another 9512 today, and some of their new shirts and stickers. They updated their website yesterday too. I'd like to check out the inhumans and the new RE xxx's, though I'm not very fond of the phat surrounds. Check em' out: http://www.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/u...c&f=8&t=008921
