Running speaker wires in a SCrew

Anyone out there able to help me out with pointers/pictures of their experience with running wires from a new amp to the four door speakers in a SCrew? Is there a good place to run the new wire near the door sill or does everything have to be run below the carpet?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I ran all my wires along the door sill, just pulled up the plastic covers if I recall. My amp is in the storage behind the rear left side seat. Rather than routing new wires through the doors, why not just hook into the harness at the head unit location, using either a adapter kit or splicing? Running wires through the the rubber boots at the doors takes work, plus then you have to make sure you keep them out of the way of the window mechanisms, etc. I went the lazy route and took advantage of Ford's pre-installed wires as much as possible. Just used adapters at all locations to make it easier.

Have you seen how small the factory speaker wires are? If you are going to add amps, better speakers, ect. why would you want to use the original wiring? I ALWAYS install bigger/better wiring to get the most power to the speaker. AND in some cases it actually sounds better IMHO.

Hi Screw,

Just did it last night. Installed amp in storagge area behind rear seat. Then ran NEW speaker wire from amp to all 4 doors. Took me a FULL day to mount amp, run speaker level, remote on and power wire from battery and head unit to amp. Then speaker wire to each door.

Running the wire down the door sils is VERY easy. Just pull up on the plastic door sil covers, they pop right off and there is a perfect 2" channel on both sides of car. Snake wire under center kick panel (at rear of front seats) and pull through other side. It's only about 8", easy. Then pull off the kick panels and bring the wires up and into the rubber boots. A little playing and they go right through them and into doors (easier if you use a small snake or hanger..). The only one which is a MAJOR PROBLEM, is the drivers side front door. This one is a B_TCH!!!!! Because the jerkey boy engineers at Ford put the boot behind a cluser of crap including but not limited to the emergency brake pedel. So, you can't get to the interior side of the boot, AND, the boot is also the fullest and hardest to get the wires down to boot (no pun intended). Took me longer to get this one then everything else combined. You know, there is alway one!!

I know exactly what you mean. I ended up using a coat hanger on the drivers side door myself. I bent a hoor in it and squeezed as tight as possible on the wire and taped it up real good so the hook would not catch on anything important. When I did the install on my truck I had the interior out for the better part of 3 days.

CCarrara,

Thanks for the tips.

I finally started the "project" this evening. After two hours of fitting and cutting boards I basically ended up getting nowhere The amp I have (a Kicker ZX460) won't fit behind the rear seat unless I leave the plastic back panel off the back of the cab. I mounted a piece of 1/2" board to the back of the cab and then screwed the amp to the board. When I tried to put the plastic panel back, it wouldn't fit. Now it looks like I'll have to do some major surgery (start with cutting the plastic) to get my system in. Oh well, this solves my problem of where to put a 10" sub. Once I cut the back panel, there should be enough room to build a small box for the sub. I'll probably be driving around with the back of the cab in pieces for a couple of weeks at least. Might as well take my time and do it right...any suggestions out there???

BTW, thanks for the tips on wiring of the speakers guys! Unfortunately it looks like it'll be a while before I get to wire my speakers
