Will The Speaker Fit?????
The screws will not line up, but you can buy or make an adaptor plate. Some places you buy your speakers from might even give you the adaptors - if not, they should only be a few $. My front speakers are 6" rounds and they fit fine; I think 6.5" would also fit easily; at the most you would only need to do some very minor trimming around a portion of the speaker cutout.
Sure will...thats what i did
Don,
I did the same thing last week because i didnt want to buy new speakers after i wrecked my car... the only thing is that only two of the screws line up in the hole...the two top ones or the two bottom ones ... well i did it in a 98 ext cab and your speaker holes are probably the same so good luck!

Oval speakers = bad.
Well, that is if your a big time car audio buff. You just can't make the suspension on an oval speaker linear. If given the choice between an oval speaker and regular speaker...stick with the good ol fashioned circular speaker. Besides the fact that lb for lb they sound better...there are by far more 6.5s out there to choose from than 6x8s.
You can buy adapter plates to fit a 6.5" in a 6x8 hole.

Since you have probably already done your install I will post this for anyone else that it may help
. On a 01 F150 XLT the front door speakers will be halfway hidden by the door panel if you just center your 6 1/2's in the stock door openings. I cut a small moon shaped piece out of the door frames and THEN made my adapter/hole covers. ALOT better sound with the speakers closer to being centered.
