6 CD Changer question

Does anyone know if anybody makes an adapter or CD/Radio head unit that works with the built in Ford installed 6 CD changer?

I want to get rid of the "TAPE PLAYER" (whats that all about?) but utilize the CD changer which is in the console. Can it be done?

Thanks in advance for the help!! And sorry if it's a repeat questoin.

Check with stinger-aamp and scosche to see if they make an adapter for the cd changer. An FM modulator is probably available that would work with the stock changer although I would look into finding a wired adapter. Just add the www.com to those company names for their sites.

Deus,

Thanks buddy!! The Stinger-amp/Bestkits site looks great!! Sent them an Email, hopefully they make a harness adapter. I can't believe nobody else is doing what I'm doing???

The second site "scosche" looks useless however?? Doesn't have any product info, just a bunch of hype about some project Excursion they did up. Did I miss something?

I love my new truck however, the sound in this SUCKS!!! Need a new head unit, Subwoofer and speakers. Ford should be assamed at them selves for selling this a "premium" sound..

I have answered this question several times (do a search) The Changer is made by Clarion but modified to speak to the Visteon head unit. It will work with just about any Visteon head unit that has a CD button. If you have an indash cd player you can press the cd button twice and it will switch to the external. Unfortunately you cannot connect it to an aftermarket head unit. You may be able to sell the stock one here and use the money to buy a new one for your new HU.

Thanks Norm, but we were trying to go the other way. Use a aftermarket HU with the facory in console changer.

Which I've since found out, won't work.

I'm amazed at this industry's(auto audio) inabilty to standardize!! I'm in the Computer industry and manufactureres would last about 5 minutes doing ths sort of thing. We should all boycott EVERY single company that does not follow some standard.

Everything would then just be "plug and play" (or, "Plug and Pray" )
