Polk-Momo Install

Well, after what seems an eternity of planning and acquiring the right parts, I finally have everything set up! specs are in my sig, but what isnt listed is the 3" seat lift, 1/2 farad cap, monster cable 1000-watt install kit (because it runs 4 guage wire from the battery to the amp distro block), and all the monster cable RCA cables to connect everything. All-in-all, its a VERY clean setup.

I read your post and noticed we have the same setup except you have the Momo subs and I have the dx7 subs. I was going to get an Alpine head unit but I went with the Clarion VRX-815 because of the mechanized 7" touchscreen lcd screen of which I hooked to a dreamcast up to. The rest of my install will be done this coming Friday so I'm looking forward to it to say the least. You're like me in your system setup....buy the quality components and don't show 'em of in terms of the type of install. You tend to keep things longer. If you'd like I'll post my pics after Friday's final install.

Cleric?

What type of box did you put the 2 8's in? Is it custom or a q-logic box?

Q-Logic and I'll probably get the subbox.net box to throw a 10" polk mom in depending on how the 2 8's sound. In my previous truck I had 2 12's so 2 8's will be different but I've been told if it's done right the sound can be just as good although I don't think 8's can touch 12's in terms of hz's.

Looks sharp! I've got the same 7873 in mine, but I went with Boston Acoustics for the speakers. Did you consider mounting the tweeters in the factory locations (next to the mids) instead of cutting the door panels? I'm just curious. I mounted my tweeters there for the stealth approach, although they might sound different/better where you put yours. Did you do the install yourself, or pay a shop?

cleric... yeah, I'd love to see 'em!

Bronco... Thanks! yeah, the 7873 is a GREAT HU. As far as tweeter mounting locations, I considered a lot of places, but finally settled on the door panels for sound staging reasons. In addition, the mm465 mids are 6.5" in diameter, so I had to cut the door sheetmetal with a die grinder anyways. Regarding who did the installation- A buddy of mine helped me set up the HU and tweets, I mounted the subs in the box, the DX7 5x7s in the rear doors, the mm465s mids in the doors (this req'd grinding the sheetmetal), Alpine F-307, and the capacitor. For the wiring and finishing up, I paid some buddies to do it, since thats what they do for a living.

oh yeah... the 3" seat lift was a PAIN in the a**, because the guy sent me a 97-98 seat lift, and I've got an '00. The difference is that the '00 has one bolt on the floor for the back seat, whereas the previous has two. Basically, I cut all three mounting points in two parts, and swapped the rear halfs that mount under the seatback.

Exclamation Calling Ruune or Cleric....

Just wondering how the Polk DX7's sound. I am thinking about putting some in my 97 F150. Polk specializes in speakers and they sure know how to build great sounding home speakers, I have two pairs . Just wondering if the car speakers are similar or what you thought of the sound.

DX7s sound great... great highs, great mids, and decent mid-lows.. but they cant touch the MM465s!

Ruune...

Thanks for the info... I plan on replacing my front speakers with Polk Audios. I am running a 12" Kicker XPL and am more worried about the front speakers than the rear. The catch is I want to replace the speakers with the stock size (6" x 8") because of the simplicity of installation. Should the DX7's sound deeper and clearer than the stock?? I am asking because I had Kicker Impulse speakers all around in my camaro and they sounded O.K. but about the same as the stock ones in my truck .

Ruune, I forgot...one more question

In your sig, it says you have dual FM 50's. How do they sound / you like them? Did you have to remove your spare?? I want to run dual exhaust (possibly Gibson) but I have heard the spare would need to be removed. Thanks.

Looks real good and clean.

Do those amps have room to breathe? Looks like they are touching the bottom of your seat.

yeah they do... theres about 1/2" between the tops of the amps and the bottom of the seat, plus the cap lifts up the fabric in the center to give just a little more.

thanks!
