Check out my idea

Ok...I want to get a nice sounding system(want better than stock)- so I was thinking of putting either Polk DX7's or Pioneer TS-A6865 (DX7's have 89db sensitivity and run at 40RMS and Pioneer's have 91 sensitivity and run at 50 RMS) Which ones are better? I then wanted to put a pair of Polk EX572a's in the rear powered by a Kenwood KAC-748 at 35W x 4. Should i go more powerful? Can i go over the RMS a little like 40-45? And then I might add a sub if it isn't too much of a hassle and if i can find somewhere to put it. I have a F150 Harley Davidson Supercrew (Bucket Seats) Any ideas? I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you!

No problem

That would sound pretty good I think, and save you some big bucks. Hearing the Polks and Pioneers next to each other, I think the polks have a better bass response but the pioneer (3-ways) sounded a lot better. If I wasen't going to do a component set, I'd just stick with 4 of the pion. 3-ways, in the stock locations. 35watts per should be fine but you'd probably be happier with 45 or 50 per channel. Hey, if the speakers n stuff are warrantied, then who cares! Also, with a little more power, you don't have to worry about having the gain way high and sending a whole lot of distortion out.
And if you ask me, or most people that have had subs, I could never live without one. You just don't realize what you're missing until you do. If you check out subbox.net, I think they have a box for the screws. Right now, I'm running two 8's but that will change to either 2 10's or 4 8's. They'res just nothing like nice tight bass kickin ya in the rear! Either way, the sub system is going to jack up your $$, a decent sub'll run around 100-150, and a 300 watt amp for around $400. I'm fond of the MTX 6500D, it's very versitile and can be found around $350.
Anyway, hope that was helpful. Enjoy!

Almost forgot

Replace your headunit first! I think you'll be surprised at just how good the factory speakers can sound when you get a good source unit behind them. Definately look into that before you replace the speakers. Personally, I love my Pioneer head unit, when it was installed, it sounded great! Also, i think it is one of the most versitile units out there, in terms of control over your sound, and modifications to your system.

i have replaced my stock speakers with polk ex all the way around. i would say that helped alot. and they got good bass. but i wanted more so i got a polk DX10 and built a box for my supercab. i am powering the sub by a 240x1 bridged PPI amp. if i were you i would get a new Headunit and new speakers and power the speakers with the headunit. it would only cost a little more an i think would sound about as good plus you would have a cool headunit.

PS look on ebay for the speakers and amp or headunit or whatever. lots of times you can get stuff brand new off ebay for hundreds less than in stores. just make sure you buy it from someone with a good feedback rating and you will be fine. i did this and i got my DX sub for 56 bucks. it retials for 150. and i got the amp for 125 from a friend and i built the box for 25. so i got mu sub for under 200 and it is great system

I just changed the head unit in my SCREW, put in a Fosgate RFX9000 and it sounds pretty decent with the stock speakers. The RFX9000 is a CD/MP3 player, very cool. I can play MP3's that I burn on a CD so I don't really need a changer. A standard CD can hold over 130 songs!!! The stock 6X8's sound okay but.....if you're like you won't be able to leave well enough alone. My next purchase are probably going to be Polk/Momo 5.25's for the fronts and Polk DX7's for the two rears. I'm going to try running them off the Fosgate source unit for now, until I drop a sub into the back of the truck. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with!!

Aloha from Hawaii

I like these, Polk EX365's(6.5's) I still have yet to make plates for them, though. I've got them running off two channels of a 600 watt amp. They sound great to me, and only $120 a pair,,,,98

Speakers first...................

You should always replace your speakers first! This is a Car Audio industry recommendation. Your factory speakers in your trucks are (unless you have the Mach 460) paper coned, foam surround, 1-way speakers, there is no tweeters etc. for separation. You will ALWAYS benefit with the replacement of speakers. If you want better sound out of your truck speakers have to first replace the SPEAKERS, by replacing the RADIO, you may be able to control the sound better, and it may sound louder, but you are still putting more power to factory 1-way speakers that have limitation on what frequencies they can reproduce. So if you want better sound replace the speakers first.

If you want more versatility, and the latest technology, replace your head unit, then if your still not satisfied you can now upgrade to an amplifier and even a subwoofer to fill the low end bass response where the regular speakers leave off.

If you were to remove your factory speaker and compare it to ANY middle - high end 5X7 (6X8) you would laugh, not to mention the differences of the sound qualilty.

However, there are limitations to replacing the speakers first, you can't go an buy some MB Quart, Polk, Infinity or Boston component speakers and expect better sound, YES they will sound better, but these speakers usually have elaborate crossover networks, and pushing a "weak" 7-10 watts of power from the factory head unit will not suffice.

GOOD LUCK

I replaced my factory speakers with Infinity 5x7's when they blew, and I can vouch for that Even with the Kenwood headunit they didn't pump out too much sound. All those problems are solved The only trouble I have now, is stopping vibrations. Man, you realize how much sound deadening does when you start getting up there in power.,,,,98
