Dummy Question of the Day!

I'm new to speaker and subwoofer technology and was wondering what mounting depth is. Say the subs I found have a mounting depth of 3 7/16" and the mounting depth of the box I have found is 5". Would that mean the box is too big or...?

It's only a dumb question if you don't ask. The mounting depth is how far the speaker or sub will stick into the door or box you are mounting it in. As long as the door or box has equal to or more than the specified amount your golden. I would be more concerned with the box volume for a sub, if you get the volume wrong it affects the sound quality and the power handling capacity.

Somewhat correct, it's only golden if they have equal mounting depth and the sub or speaker isn't pole vented (vents out the magnet). Otherwise you want at least a 1/2" in between so it can vent properly and not cause pre-mature damage to it.

Easy answer to your question, yes the sub will fit in the box, like the other guy said you need to fiqure out the air space of the box you have and compair it to the air space that is required by the sub
