I’m hoping someone might clear up something for me. I have a 2010 XLT super cab with a basic radio w/o sync or nav. I am in the process of replacing my factory radio with a Pioneer DVD deck and once done I’ll have a great radio but lousy sound until I change out the speakers as well.
One thread here says the speakers in the front and rear are 5 X 7’s but a friend locally says they are more likely 6 X 8’s. Can someone confirm one or the other or maybe they both would fit???
Thanks
Al

^ What he said. Almost all aftermarket speaker manufacturers that make 5x7's also have the holes to line up with a 6x8. If you just want better than the plain jane stock speakers and don't want to spend a lot of coin, I have a set of sony coax that came out of my 13 FX4 in the classifieds. Also there is a pair of CDT audio 5.25" coax with adapter plates.

Funny I am looking at Crutchfield and when I punch in my truck all but a couple of the 6X8 disappear?!?!
You can make all of them fit. I bought 5x7s to be safe, but may have wanted to make 6.5s from my old truck fit that were much more expensive. The 5x7s, if good ones, are more than adequate. Don't get too hung up on size.
Honestly, I'd replace the HU first, then do speakers if you still feel they aren't good enough. No harm if you still want them later. When I put the new head unit in my 06 (in 2012), my stock speakers sounded 10 times better, and I only decided to put the new speakers I got at the same time in because the stocks lacked the ability to go quite as high as I needed them to.

What Kmac said, the stock speakers are the newer gen trucks are actually pretty decent, but the headunit doesn't have the power to really make them sound right. I'd replace the headunit first (since you said you are already) and then decide if you still want to upgrade the speakers.
As for crutchfield, they're site can be kinda picky for stuff like that, as well as slightly overpriced.

Personally, I love them and won't buy a lot of audio components from anyone but them for all of the above reasons. Amps and sub enclosures I can't afford to buy from them haha. I've purchased two HUs and 4 pairs of speakers from them with nothing but good things to say
Better deals can be had sometimes, no doubt about that, but I don't understand wiring enough to splice in a HU without a new harness and instructions haha.

I'd just rather buy a harness cheap off ebay or somewhere else for a few dollars and wait a few weeks to receive it versus paying their premium for the one stop shop kinda deal, but they do carry everything you'll most likely need to do an install.
I have found that their in store prices are usually a little better though.

I am replacing my HU with a Pioneer AVH-X2600BT. I have the unit and just finished wiring the harness for easy hook up. Shhhh I have to do this slowly as my wife knows I have been saving some money but has no idea that this unit is $400!!! I'll tell her it was much cheaper so I can live another day :-)
I'll get it in this weekend or next then see if I need to put in better speakers I guess. I just figured stock speakers are never good but if you all are saying they are pretty good nowadays, I'll wait and see. If I do add speakers though I'm looking at two pair of Kicker 40CS684. I do not planning on adding any amps though.
I do appreciate all the advice though. THANKS!!!!

The kickers at walmart sound pretty decent, especially if you give them a 100 watts. Put some in my daughters car and they surprised me for the price.
LOL... Do you need a receipt for a 100.00 bucks to keep sharks from circling??? ROTFLMAO.... I feel your pain. My Ex was like that.

I wish she was like a shark, as long as the dorsal fin doesn't come up out of the water you may never know what hit you. She is more like a bear, you can hear it charging a mile a way and you know there is nothing you can do but run and you know you are only prolonging the inevitable. LOL
I was looking at Crutchfield as I doubt Walmart here in Canada will have any Kickers.
I'm good that way gents, We are sort of "odd ducks" that way. Each of us has our own bank accounts and we each pay our different family bills. It has worked well for us for over 25 years now and we like it that way. My problem with the stereo is, she works and has for most of here life, in accounting and is very good at it. What would upset her is me paying $400 for this unit when a $150 one would have been adequate. "Because that's what I want" doesn't always fly well with her :-)
Don't get me wrong she is a great woman for me and keeps me an a straighter path than I might have lead myself, but she is tight when it comes to money!!!
Looks like I'm working more OT this weekend so I won't get that stereo in this one either :-(
