How much/What Type of Sound Deadening.

I just have a few questions. I have used Dynamat on my old hatchback and it worked great. I have a little experience in doing it myself so here goes nothing.

1. How much material do you think I need for a 2005 Reg Cab FX4?
2. Which type of Sound Deadening would be best. Dynamat Raamat?

Thanks for the input.

Go to Home Depot and get self stick roofing sealer. It is the same material as the expensive stuff. I have used it on 2 trucks and it works VERY well. Buy 3-4 rolls of the stuff and take back what you don't use. My truck is dead quiet with it.

First off, where do you live? In the summer in hot temps the asphalt smell can get out of hand when using the home depot stuff. It does work but in the summer with 100+ temps you will smell it. I used GT MAT the butyl Rubber 50 mil. There was a seller on ebay that had 25 sqft for 39.99. 25 sqft will easily do your doors and rear cab.

The product I use is a butyl substrate. It gets HOT here too, 100+ degrees in August and September. Has never smelled yet.

Don't remember, but it has a plastic sheet on one side, but not the side that sticks.........The plastic stripper is white, I just left it on when I installed it.

I've used the lowes roofing peel and seal and over the 3+ years I've had it in my truck, it only smelled when I installed it. Never in the 110+ summers did the smell ever come back. I used about 2 rolls of it to do my ext cab floor, doors and rear wall.

How hard was it to install and could you tell a difference?

Hardest part was taking out the carpet and steam cleaning it, then re-installing it. There really isn't anything hard about it, annoying parts are cutting out around everything (bolts, awkward edges/angles). I have no idea about just peel and seal making a difference, as I also put extra pelt and vinyl backed foam.

I mentioned the smell because some are asphalt based and some are butyl. Just giving him a heads up. The wrong stuff stinks.

I used MurderMat in my truck. May want to check them out. I'm happy with it and it looks cool too.

I came in here to recommend the E-Dead I got from Elemental Designs a few years, only to do a quick search and find ED is no more, so there goes my recommendation.

It looks like you're interested in a dampening (heavy) material, but I have had decent luck using foam duct insulation as a barrier membrane (to seal up doors, and such). It won't dampen vibrations, but it's pretty good at being a sound barrier. I use this stuff from Home Depot:

It's not exactly cheap, but I like it. I'm going to have to look into the roofing stuff. So is the butyl based stuff the kind that doesn't stink when hot?

I also used to use Elemental Designs but they went belly up last year, and IF, and hopefully you dont, but if you use Dynomat you might as well go to the grocery store pick up a roll of tin-foil and stick some rubber cement on it, its an over priced low quality product. Use Sound Qubed or even better Second Skin. Ive been into car audio for years, nothing is as good as those two.
