I think that first link, the ported box, will provide more "boom" than the sealed box. How many watts are you feeding those subs? Sound quality wise, I usually like sealed boxes for everything until you get to 15's and all you're trying to do is blow your windows out haha. But ported vs sealed is a matter of opinion and taste most of the time. So what are you after most?

I've had two 15s in a ported box that were loud as all hell, and have two 12s in a sealed box now that "sound" better. Not a direct, or good, comparison, but something.

I'm not seeing either of them being ported at all, maybe I'm missing something?

But either way, if I am missing it, prefab ported is generally no good. They tune to high which means you lose a lot of low end output, you can damage the sub by it "free-airing" below the tuning frequency, etc.

But those boxes are also completely different. The first link shows .8cf per chamber and the second box shows 1.36cf per chamber. Do you know what those subs require air space wise?

I tried googling them, but all I could find was that they were rebranded Atomic or RD subs, sometimes using lesser quality parts and discontinued for a few years now.

So without knowing what the subs require it's really a guess as to what would be better. If you go with a box too small, the subs can sound flat and potentially be damaged. Box to big, and the subs will bottom out easily and potentially be damaged.

But if you can't find anything on them, I'd say go with the box with the smaller airspace per chamber. Start with the volume low, keep the gain back (should be anyways), and slowly raise it and listen for any problems. If they sound fine then your probably good to go, if they have a hollow sound you can always get some poly fill to help make up for some of the missing air space.

yeah I couldn't find anything on those subs either. I got them from a friend who just didn't want them anymore. I'll probably do what pizzaman said and get the one with .8cf per chamber but I also have an alpine type e I'm sure that would be easier to get more information on. should i just get another one of those and put them into the box?

I didn't know you dabbled in the art of redneck'd audio systems, Mr. tea sipper. I got my whole home theater in my bed for those block parties. It's impervious to rain too cause they covered in trash bags. Lowe's has some pink zebra print camo for ya, I know that's right up your alley

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about getting another type e. Not too great of a sub. I would wait for them to die and replace them with a nice set of 12's on a decent amp.

Oh and make sure you get dmm to check the ohm levels of the subs so you can wire them properly.

Hey kfagI know they're not the best subs but I got them for free maybe down the road I'll upgrade my system. But I don't have the money right now so I'm going to make do with what I have. You just go around and brag about how you spent your money. HA! laugh at people like you. Got nothing better to do but try and ruin someone else's day well it didn't work. and to everyone else thank you for your input, sincerely

Was that directed at me (kfag = kmac)? I didn't make fun of your system at all . . .

Post #7 and #8 were just me and MGDfan fooling around because we go back and forth joking with each other.

Oh, not at all man! I'm sorry for whatever you thought was me making fun of you. Free = better than anything you can spend money on in my book! I definitely don't see anything wrong with your audio system at all

I have 2 Kicker CVTs, which are similar to CVRs but shallow mount, with a little 1100 watt ProAcoustic(k) amp I got at a flea market.
