Looking to build my own single 10in sub box. Ive got a 98 xl xcab with the 60/40 rear seat that folds toward the front seats. I havent been able to find much on a sub boxes for this type of seat. Everything ive found seems to be for the seats that fold back. Has anyone built one for this type of seat? or should i just say screw it and check junk yards for the rear folding seats? thanks

 

It can be done, but you'll most likely need to do a seat lift too and trim some of the excess hanging down from the bottom on the seat off. There isn't a lot of room under our seats, so hopefully your looking at a shallow mount sub. Because don't forget about 1.5" of the total height of clearance you have under there needs to be left for sub to have room to move and not hit anything. But I did it in my truck, so I know it's possible.

 

I've seen guys raise the seats 2 inches and build a box to fit under the 60 side. 12 inch shallow

 

I have the seat raised in my whatever the actual thickness of a 2x2 is, with a 12" shallow under it on the driverside. I think after the seat like I had like 7 3/8" of room between the carpet to the seat in the front, so even less in the back. Even with a seat lift their isn't a lot of room.

But I've also done it where I took out the 40 portion, left the 60 on the passenger side over, made some new mounts to bolt the seat to the mounting brackets, and put a full size 12 in place of the 40 that came out about flush in height with the 60 portion.

I'd pass on that sub. Pioneer makes decent head units, and that's about it. In that price range the rockford fosgate P3S is a lot better of a choice. Your still going to need to do a seat lift, to fit the box in, but it's doable with a sub with less than 4.5" of mounting depth.

As a rough idea the p3s 10 and 12 both need about 3.6" of mounting depth, and since they are pole vented (most subs are) you should add at least a 1/2" to that for proper venting. Since they're low power you can get away with using 5/8" mdf, and finally you should leave at least 1.25-1.5" of room between the face of the sub and the carpet or bottom of the seat (dependent on down firing or up firing). So you need roughly about 7" of depth between the bottom of the seat and the carpet.

 

Ok. another question, may be stupid but, with the seat lift how does that work with the forward flipping seats with the hinges?

 

What do you mean? Mine can still flip forward if that's what your asking. It's all in how you design your box. If your box comes too far forward you'll have to slide it out to flip out the seat, I'd you keep it back the seat can flip out fine.

I always thought it was funny how my seats could fold forward. You have more space with them up. I have a tonneau cover so I don't ever use the back seat for cargo,That's what the bed is for.
