replacement for probox rocks subs
hello, i'm a newbe here and in need of some help. i puchased a probox rocks that comes with 2 8inch subs a year ago, it sounds good but i went thru 3 subs already. it's a 750 rms watts and i'm pushing a rockford p500 500 wttas rms. really like the box but i want to replace the subs for better ones because the ones that came with it, the rubber seperated with the cone. does anyone know what other subs fit the probox? mind you i don't know jack about car audio.i don't care about prices. i'm looking for good hard bass. i love bass. thanks in advance.
It all depends on what you mean by good hard bass. The secret to subs is all about the box. The best subs in a crappy box will sound like crap while the crappiest subs in a tuned box can sound phenomenal.
Those proboxes are designed to be used with those probox subs. If you want to stick with that box, then by all means do that. you have to find a sub with a mounting depth that will fit in the box, and make sure your box airspace (cuft) is within specs for the sub you choose. But even if the subs fit and everything is within manufacturer specifications, the new subs could still end up sounding ****ty because the box wasn't designed for them.
IF MONEY ISN'T AN ISSUE: My suggestion would be to sell the probox and get a car audio shop to build you a custom box to go along with any sub you choose. This way you can run a high-performance sub and have it sound like it should. Just choose what style of box you want to run. ( http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/S...ubwoofer_Boxes ) For instance, I run a ported box with 2 12" Kicker CompVRs and people hear me from at least 1/4 mile away. I've even had guys walk out of convenience stores and ask what in the world I was running that was that loud. They seemed a bit shocked to discover I was only running 500w of power with speakers that loud....
Whatever you do, DO NOT put a sub in a box that isn't within the sub manufacturer's measurement specifications for that sub. I went through 2 Kicker SoloBaric 10" subs before I realized the reason I was frying lead wires was that the box wasn't designed for that sub, and caused the sub to clip constantly.
Either way, it's your choice. I hope this helps you out.

I use Kicker. I love their products and when they are installed properly, they slam.
Any well known brand should be good. Kicker, Alpine, MTX, Rockford Fosgate. I would choose Kicker or Alpine over the others, but when properly set up they all have the potential to sound good.

I wouldn't touch mtx subs these days, not the quality they used to be. Sundown has the sd series 8 which is pretty shallow and Audioque has a pretty shallow 8 too. But if you plan to run two of them you'd need to up your power some, both of them like more than rated.
I guess I should have clarified my response. What I'm suggesting is that he buy an actual brand rather than go to walmart and buy a $25 12" sub. While those are cheap and do put out some bass, he will be much happier in the long run going with a quality sub.
I would check out the new Kicker CompRT subs. even the 12" has a mounting depth of only 3-3/4". They may be a little expensive, but I have not been let down yet by any kicker product. Even though they are power hogs, they put out really good bass, and are extremely dependable.
Also, I would stay away from pioneer shallow mounts. My friend had some in his truck and he was replacing subs left and right.....

MTX subs would be comparable to those 25 dollar walmart ones. But walmart does carry RE audio now and they have Kicker products so at least they're starting to carry quality car audio.
I wouldn't touch brands like pioneer, boss, kenwood, sony, pyle, etc. though for subs all of which are also available at walmart.
The alpine shallow is also pretty good, good enough where it outperformed the normal type-r so alpine had to redesign that one. They're price, roughly 300ish, but they'll perform well in very small spaces (.5-6ish cf) and on low power (like 3-400rms). Its what I'm running now until the new Stereo Integrity BM is released, closest comparable shallow mount to it available.

Thanks guys. I spoke to some1 at probox about replacing the subs to a different brand but they said they don't know any other subs with 4 1/2 inch mounting depth as strong as there's. I took out the sub to measure the inner hole and it measured close to 5 1/2 in front and almost 5 inch in back. Any1 knows about that? Sundown sa won't fit n cadence won't fit. Even the hippo 84 don't fit damn. I think the kicker 8 inch comp r with 400watts rms. Let me know guys. Let me know about any other subs that would fit. Thanks again.
Yea the sundown sa, the hippo 84 and subs like that all need about 5.5" or so of mounting depth. And a lot of airspace and way more port area than that box has. They would sound terrible in that box and you'd be giving two of them roughly 1/3 of the power they want. To give you an idea power wise I used two run to skar vvx8's (a more musical sundown sa-8) and the box was roughly 12x10x47 and they were getting about 8-900 a piece of clean power.
I think the major problem your going to have is that the box is ported, and trying to get a sub to sound right in there is going to be hard, and without knowing what it's tuned too you could keep damaging subs if you play below the tuning frequency.

ok, i'm looking at supercrewsound.com and found 2 box, 1 is for 2 (10 inch subs) and the other is for 2 (12 inch subs) what do u guys think?. i'm thinking of going with dual 12 inch. Requires a 2.5" seat lift kit. any thoughts?.thanks again and keep it coming :-).
Which two boxes are you looking at? Without us knowing your year or cab configuration it's hard for us to know which ones your referring too. But I can say with two 12's it may take some searching to find some that'll work with the airspace given with that box.
