Ripped Off!

My buddy's got a 98 single cab dodge and went to Wrights Sound Gallery. This guy paid 1200$ for 2 rocksford fosgate 10's in a custom box by the place. wiring and new deck and install and I believe a new fosgate amp. And a bass ***. He brought to the house and it sounds and looks great but for 1200$ it should all be gold plated. Is it just me or did he get ripped off?

custom box 200-400 depending on wood or fiberglass, 2 10s 200-500 depending on p1 or p2 or p3 and if they are shallow mount, amp to push them around 500, deck 200-400, bass **** 40, deck install 50, dash kit and wiring harness 40, amp install 75, 4 awg amp kit 75, tax 150, total over 1500. sounds like he got a decent deal depending on what exactly he got. i worked at a stereo shop for 5 years recently if youre wondering if i just pulled all of those numbers out of my a$$

Yea sounds about right depending on what he got. That's why I do my installs myself, saves a chunk of money haha.

Yea he came out all right I guess. His box is custom he said they made it that day. Carpeted. I can't tell u exactly what he got but he did tell me he got the lower priced stuff. It really was installed good though and sounded great. I just thought he over paid .

Eh I'd hope they'd let the glue and whatever they used to seal the box set and dry for like half a day at least before dropping the subs in.

Not bad IMO.
It takes a bit of time to get all that stuff put in, plus the custom box.

Install takes up a lot of that, and a name brand amp would be expensive. Hooray for fleamarket amps! Install on that stuff isn't too hard, could've done it himself if he's got any ability with his hands. But having a shop do all of that sounds like pretty good price

Like many have said, depending on which amp and sub, with a custom box, that's not too bad. When I had a broken hand, I needed someone to install an amp for me, and they charged $90. I had already built the box and the amp rack myself, but broke my hand before I could do the wiring. So you can see how things can add up quickly. That was essentially running just a power and ground, since there was no drilling through the firewall or for a ground needed.

overall cost of system with installation...

I had everything replaced in my truck by a local reputable shop.
$1200 total

Kenwood Exc. KDC-X895
Excelon KFC-X683C 6x8's (2 pair) (at shop's cost supposedly)
Alpine MRX-V60 5ch. amp w/opt. bass ****
Custom carpeted sealed box for single Rockford Fosgate P3SD410 Punch S3 Shall 10" sub (DVC 4ohm)
4 gauge Wiring kit
Installation
(including $30 credit after testing old RF amps)

Depending on the equipment, your price seems reasonable to me.
