Newb system Plans

Hey all, just picked up my 2012 FX4 with sync, but no sony or nav. I've lived with the junk speakers for about a week and I'm going nuts. Wanted to get your thoughts and see if I'm on the right track

- Step One: Replace all four door speakers with one of these two 6x8's
- Pioneer TS-D6802R or MB QUART DISCUS Series DKE 168
- Step two: upgrade the factor tweeters. I have a couple of questions. For this m/y they have included a-pillar tweeters from the factory even with this model. Is there a crossover to the tweeters that will make the tweeters in the aftermarket speakers usless? Anyone know the size? Tweeter recommendations?
- Step three: Add sub
- MB Quart Reference RLP304 12" Flat Woofer
- MBQUART FX1.400 1 Channel Mono Block (running in 2ohm at 400watts)
- SuperCrewSound 12" single sub box

How soon am I going to want to add a 4 channel amp for the speakers? I'd prefer not to do this but will the factory stereo be enough to sound good with the sub?

What line out converter do you recommend for this set up?

Anything else I'm missing here? I just want to get some better sound and a bit more bass, doesnt need to be show worthy. I mainly listen to "stoner rock" and 90's rock.

Thanks! Great to be back in a truck

Congrats on the new FX4. I just found out today mine is done with production.

For step one. Any particular reason you are going with 6x8's all the way around? Which ties into step 2. If you wanted 6x's all the way around, you might even consider a set of 6x8 components.

Me personally, I am going with 6-1/2's front and rear. Brand wise, I have no clue yet. I have audio ADD and have been looking at about 10 different brands LOL. Between your choice of Pioneer or MB Quart, I would go with the latter. But, that's MY ears. One of my big contenders right now is either JBL or some Polk.

I think you would want a 4 channel pretty soon. As someone who was an installer once upon a time, I never have cared for LOCs. Especially on Factory HU's. If you listen to the local radio a lot, the bass will drown everything out. Especially if you're running 400w RMS.

Another idea I might suggest, get a nice 5 channel ahead of time. Maybe something like the Alpine PDX-V9. 100W x 4 @4/2Ω and 500W X 1 @ 2/4Ω. You will have all the power you need for subs, and have the amp available for the other 4 channels later.

Sorry for dragging on. Good luck with your build. I would love to see some pictures.

I am also curious about the crossover arrangement for the tweeter in the A-pillar.

I just bought a JBL MS-8. I want to keep the install relatively simple and try it first with the stock speakers powered by the MS-8's internal amps, along with a single sub/amp. If the sound quality is acceptable, I'll leave it at that.

If the sound quality is still unacceptable, I will replace the speakers and add a four channel amp. The tweeter crossover arrangement from the factory will impact the how this is wired and I wouldn't mind knowing in advance what I'm in for if I have to go that route.
