The Digital Designs is nice, but on the same level as the dcon just more spl oriented and higher priced. But the dd's subs hate being sealed so you'd have to almost go ported for it to perform optimally and they like alot of port area which means a bigger box.

Or bump up to a higher class of subs and a bigger amp... My 8's have more output than that 15 would haha.

Bandpass boxes tend to have a similar if not narrower response than a ported box.. most I've seen roll off a little more gradual than a ported. But it depends on the box volume and tuning really. You'll need strong midbass to integrate well too.

If you don't have an EQ to cut some of the "fat" from a ported setup then I recommend sealed. I run a pair of ported tens and have an RF360.2 to shape the sound - after becoming accustomed to it I don't think I can run a ported box without it. Like I said earlier, these trucks have massive cabin gain below 50hz. Before EQ I had a relatively large hump from 30-45hz.

If he's trying to keep the box small though, designing a 4th or 6th order is not gonna fit into a small box plan. And it may have a wider range, but it'll play the same as a ported very very peaky around the tuning. No even roll off from it.

better suggestion if you are going to have to purchase anything for your system my advice is save up the money and go with jl 12w3 if you are looking for something that just pounds and can hit every frequency thrown at it. where im getting at is ive been there got something what i thought was gonna be great and a huge saving on money and put it in and always wanted more. you get what you pay for and you also got to throw in the factor of your amp the quality of the box (fiberglassing over all the seams) dynamat all these come in to play. you dont want to have to replace your box everytime somebody gets in the back. you want ppl to just jump in and crank the radio and just rock without any distortion and thats the key is distortion how much power your speakers can actually handle. no offense in any way i tell all my friends the same way. ill take pics of all my audio stuff and post them tom.

I noticed you keep talking about jl stuff, not to hurt your feelings about it, but theres alot of subs and amps out there on the same level or higher than jl for a way better price. You just gotta get away from the mainstream stuff.

THIS. Without the EQ, a large ported driver in the F150 is just a huge fartbox and sounds pretty poor IMO. Sealed gives you a much better natural response with good extension both ways without the need for major EQ. Sacrifice a tad of output 30-50Hz for a better overall response anyday, IMO. Saves you some space too.

I've been Through lots of different brands and money prices and nothing had the sound quality I was looking for. I started going to car toys to get my audio done and that's when I started switching over to jl and focal. Now I can crank it and be loud tight n crisp. And maybe that's what I'm going for is to be so loud that you make your passengers wanna cry and still sound perfect. But I mean it's anyone's preference I guess but for as much money as I've thrown into all my audio I wish I had just went jl from the get go.
