I can relate to the kids in the back. You are looking at fitting subs under the back seat or having a custom console of some type made. I think with the Alpines and enough power you can get a low end sound that would suffice. It will not be anything like Fish but would be enough to make you giggle.

I don't get loud and low that often but when I do my two MKIIIs, all SQ not SQL, can make all kinds of things rattle and vibrate.

Fish,
I fixed the "two". :o

two too to, there their the're, where we're wear. I sometimes wonder about the English language.
HAHA!

Yeah Im really not trying to build a competition system but something that is very nice quality with a great brand name. 2 10's or 2 12's would be what im looking for along with all new door speakers and tweeters.

How about rear fill? Do you want a little something in the back for the kids.

I have a set of Focal 6.5 Coaxials in the back. When I have my young children in back I turn the sub all the way down and they can listen to their Imagination Movers.

wish i had that kind of a budget for my truck i have to piece my sound system together.....if i had that budget and were to do an install tommarrow....my set up would consist of these product.....a pioneer or alpine double din DVD player with all the bells and wistles....some nice components in the front doors and a nice set of coaxils in the rear doors (preferably Alpine), 2 12" Alpine Type RSWR-t12 shallow mount subs, and the new pdx series amplifiers to power them all up i would run the alpine PDX-F4 for the mids and highs, and a PDX-M12 for the subs....and i would preferably get a fiberglass box built underneath the seat just so you get the fitment you want and a strong rigid box....oh and the head rest monitors to boot........all i have for now is just one 12" Alpine Type RSWR-t12 shallow mount sub in an MTX thunderform box (to much airspace) being powered by an old alpine 600.1 that is only pushing 400 watts at 4 ohms in my 07 f150 FX2......but good luck with the build

I have been thinking about headrest monitors also. I have portables that strap to the headrests just for long roadtrips.

Problem is I don't know if I want each headrest to have a built in DVD player.

I am thinking about replacing the stock head unit but there aren't any DVD Double Din units have all the SQ features I want.

Nice thing about each headrest having its own build in player is each kiddo can watch what they want. Wireless headphones are a must. I really don't want to hear their movies when driving.

Langlowe - Bit-one?
mdavis - With a shop doing the install, you budget will probably be cut down to around half. Depending on when they are released, I would go with Hybrid Audio Technologies new Unity series or Audible Physics new Ebony/Soul based on the previous offerings of the company. Get a quality amp that puts out 2 channels of ~180W of clean power for the front speakers. 2 Alpine SWR t-12's in a box with .6 cu ft for each driver. They need around 1000W-1200W @ 2ohm. And then get some CLD and MLV for deadening.

jon,
yup...looking at all of them also. Audison bit one, Fosgate 3sixty.3 (when it comes out), JBL ms8, Zapco dsp9. I would love to have a double din with dvd, nav, bluetooth, iphone, along with all the advanced DSP eq and crossover features but it just doesn't exist yet.

mdavis,
jons plan is a good one.
If you want rear fill you could get some decent coaxial speakers and just run them directly off the the head unit. That would more than suffice for the kids in the back seat.

For amplification you could do something like this. It might save a little cash

Zed Leviathan II
http://www.zedaudiocorp.com/index.ph...iathan-ii.html

Channels 1 and 2 providing 150watts RMS to 6.5 components in doors on passive crossovers.

Channels 3 and 4 bridged giving 600watts RMS to first Alpine 12 shallow.

Channels 5 and 6 bridged giving 600watts RMS to second Alpine 12 shallow.

Or here is an Alpine option. Alpine is a name you are familure with. This would cost a few hundred more than the Zed but would be more name brand familure.
Alpine PDX-4.100 bridged to two channels giving 200watts RMS to front components.

Alpine PDX-M12 giving 1200watt RMS at 2 ohm to both Alpine shallow 12s.

This thread makes me envious. Wish I had your funds for a sound system at my disposal.

I hear ya! My brother is on his 3rd deployment and is currently in Afghanistan. He usually comes back with a hefty piggy bank.

SQ systems are much cheaper than loud systems. $5k will get you competing in MECA SQ if you do the install and know how to tune. To compete in SPL drags, you often-times need $20k+ in just equipment and materials.

With $5k you could build a ridiculous system, you just need to know what specifically you are after. Start with the heart of your system: the headunit and sound processor. With that much money invested, there is zero reason not to process the whole system using active crossovers.

Otherwise, whats been said is mostly correct. Install is key, prep the doors and floor and aim the speakers in locations to minimize Path Length Differences from left to right.
