Problem Installing Factory Amp / Sub
Problem Installing Factory Amp / Sub
I bought a used factory enclosure / sub / amp from someone who took it out of their '08 scab FX4. I have the 6 disk radio in my 06 screw FX4. I also checked before I bought it and I have the subwoof drop under my back seat. Problem is ..... I plugged the sub into the drop under the back seat and it doesn't work
I checked the fuse [25A] and it was okay. Infact, I also replaced the fuse just to go sure and it's still a no go. I pulled the radio from the dash thinking maybe the other end of the sub wiring wasn't attached but I didn't see anything with a connector on it hanging loose. I thought that as long as I had the sub wiring on the back seat it was pretty much "plug and play" but that doesn't seem to be the case.
What am I missing. Here are some pic's

Wrong Head Unit
You need an Audiophile head unit. By the looks of it you're missing the sub input on the back of that head unit. There should be another small plug input between the open grey one on yours ( in 1st pic ) and where the antenna plugs in.
Also, I thought I read somewhere that not all trucks had the wiring behind the dash for the sub. There should be a small harness that is clipped to the metal frame that would connect to the back of an Audiophile head unit.

Thanks. Based on my searches I thought I'd be okay as I had the 6 disc changer and the sub harness under the back seat. Also had the 25A fuse in the fuse box ... which I thought was kind of strange.
matt is correct. the wiring is there on some models but the audiophile headunit is missing.
The radio and sub is an option packaged together so if you didnt have the sub you didnt have the sub compatible radio.
You have to find an audiophile radio and contrary to what matt said, if the rear plug for the sub is there then your truck should have the radio plug hidden or taped down somewhere in that radio void. It will plug right in to an audiophile headunit and your sub should be working then. The trucks that arent wired for the sub have neither the rear sub plug or the radio plug up front.

Ford has done some strange things with these trucks.

you know, i will retract my previous statement.
Half the stuff manufactures do really doesn't make sense.
Mine was prewired for some strange options as well.
Just wondering matt perhaps the plug you found in the dash was for the sirius sat radio?

Nope, Sirrius SAT was already plugged into the back of the radio. The sub plug is totally different than the one for SAT radio. When I added a factory NAV unit to my 06 I also added the entire "Audiophile" setup ( speakers, sub etc ). I had buy the plug for the sub and run wires to the DS kickpanel where the dash harness terminates.
