Pics of my SWR-T12 subs and box
I previously purchased a MTX Thunderform subwoofer enclosure because it was a good deal and i figured I could find a subwoofer to fit it.
After doing some comparisons, I think I'm set on a Alpine SWT-T12.
So my questions is whether the volume of the enclosure will be too great and affect the performance of the subwoofer. The enclosure is .94 cu. ft. and the spec. for the sub states that it should be in a box that is .4-.75 cu.ft. How will the added volume affect the sub? Could I fill the enclosure with some type of material to reduce the volume?

I've never used one of those MTX boxes so I can't comment on how they sound or would sound with another box. If it were me I would stick with fiberglass and/or wood for the construction of the box.
Thanks!
Not at all. With someone sitting in the seat the box is closer than I like but the subs are recessed so it still has plenty of clearance. The pics are a little misleading.
I think the thinnest spot had 5 layers of 2 ounce mat which made the glass a minimum of 1/4" if I remember correctly.

No polyfill I hate that crap. Anyways I cut the divider out sounds so much better . I should have did this a long time ago might have saved me three subs.
the sub will not sound good in the mtx enclosure it is to big and there is not enough support in it, i have already tried it. i was only pushing 400 watts to mine and it sounded like a crap as soon as i got the right air space the sub sounded a million times better and hit harder.....i hope this helps
Personally I always use polyfill due to past experiences. I've had many different setups in many different boxes/cabins and polyfill almost always seems to make the low end sound a bit more filled out (if that makes sense). If you're happy with the way it sounds now though I wouldn't mess with it.
